<p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Senior Budget Analyst is part of the finance and accounting team supporting Vanderbilt University's Division of Administration (DoA). This position is responsible for performing various complex financial analysis which require a robust understanding of finance principals and high attention to detail. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Finance; the Senior Budget Analyst will interact with departmental and central finance representatives and professional peers on a frequent basis to understand departmental financial performance. The Senior Budget analyst prepares month end general ledger analysis and assists in preparing quarterly forecasts, operating budgets, capital budgets and ad-hoc analysis. The Sr. Budget Analyst will have an understanding of accounting concepts, theories, practices, and terminology to identify financial trends, opportunities or areas of concern.</p> <p>About the Work Unit:</p> <p>The Division of Administration sits at the heart of Vanderbilt's daily operations, working across the university to ensure our campus functions with care, precision, and purpose. Through diverse departments like Auxiliary Services, Public Safety, Equal Opportunity and Access, Dialogue Vanderbilt, and Vanderbilt University - New York City, we support the people who make Vanderbilt extraordinary.</p> <p>Key Functions and Expected Performance:</p> <ul> <li>Provide information monthly to the Senior Director, Finance concerning expenditures and balances for operating budgets. Flag unusual fluctuations and alert management of concerns </li><li>Partner with Senior Accountant to ensure all monthly accounting entries are completed to begin P&L analysis. </li><li>Demonstrate ability to understand accounting and financial concepts to analyze transactions and impact on both P&L and balance sheet. </li><li>Serve as primary contact to review all unbudgeted spending and opportunities for new lines of business. This includes partnering with department to create a business case and ROI analysis. </li><li>Assist the Senior Director, Finance and business unit leads in developing their annual operating budget, five-year capital plan, and quarterly forecasts. </li><li>Coordinate with facilties any upcoming infrastructure upgrades that are expected to be covered by the individual departments and make sure expenses are included in budget. </li><li>Coordinate and assist in loading budget and forecast into PBCS system. </li><li>Provide insight on variance analysis during quarterly forecast. </li><li>Update semi-annual cash flow commitment schedules for all auxiliaries. </li><li>Assist departments in reviewing financial component of contracts. </li><li>Prepare ad hoc financial reports and participate in special projects as needed. </li><li>Lead, cross train, and serve as a resource for DofA finance/accounting team members. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Relationships:</p> <p>This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to Senior Director, Finance.</p> <p>Education and Certifications</p> <ul> <li>A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education - or relevant equivalent combination of education, military experience, and skills - is required. </li><li>A Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Experience and Skills:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Necessary:</p> </li><li> <p>4+ years of financial/data analysis experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger.</p> </li><li> <p>Skill in Excel and Word applications is necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Time management skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred:</p> </li><li> <p>Prior experience with Oracle ERP.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people, understanding their needs and goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work co-operatively with others as part of a team, as opposed to working separately or competitively.</p> </li><li> <p>Openness to change, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in a variety of situations, with individuals or groups.</p> </li></ul> <p>Key Characteristics of a Successful Team Member in this Unit:</p> <ul> <li>Analytical & Detail-Oriented - Accurately assesses information and applies applicable law, policy and procedure. Volunteers rather than waiting to be asked. Understands that almost no one works in a silo and needs the help of others to do their job well; recognizes that by helping others first, others will likely reciprocate. </li><li>Naturally Communicates - Readily shares information and is comfortable working within a highly collaborative team. Understands that open, proactive communication and the sharing of knowledge is fun </li></ul>
