What you'll do Viasat is seeking an experienced business director to join the leadership team of our growing high-assurance encryption business. You will be a proven leader with expertise in product line management, government communications, and secure networking solutions. In this role, you will oversee business strategy, product development, and execution, ensuring our solutions meet the evolving needs of government customers. You will own profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities, implement rapid growth of the product development team, and lead the team of program managers and cross-functional development engineers to successfully complete next-generation encryption solution developments, certifications, transitions to production, and sustainment. The day-to-day Product Lifecycle & Execution Oversee product development, from concept through launch, production, and sustainment. Manage product financials, including forecasts, risks, and opportunities. Coordinate and prioritize the work of supporting functions, including supply chain, production, quality assurance, IT, marketing, and security. Leadership & Team Management Rapidly expand the engineering team, tools, and support functions to complete a growing portfolio of product developments. Lead and mentor a team of program managers and engineers to complete successfully on next-generation encryption product developments. Champion a collaborative, cross-functional culture with a "One-Team" approach. Enable business and technical innovation through continuous improvement initiatives. Demonstrate leadership that aligns with Viasat's cultural values. Business Growth & Strategy Identify, prioritize, and capture growth opportunities for the product line and business. Collect market intelligence, assess customer needs, conduct competitive analysis, and define a multi-year product roadmap. Develop long-term strategic plans and drive adjacent market entry. Develop capture strategies and lead the business acquisition process. Collaborate with other Viasat business areas with a "One-Team" approach. Engage with senior leadership to brief on strategic markets, plans, and initiatives. Customer & Market Engagement Develop and maintain strong customer relationships across the DoD, Intelligence Community, and Federal Government. Support marketing strategies and identify new opportunities to expand our secure communications footprint. What you'll need Strong leadership, team-building, collaboration, and communication skills (this role will have direct reports). 10+ years' experience in government communications, product line management, and new product development. Demonstrated success on program execution Established relationships within U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community, Federal Government, and Defense Industrial Base end-users and/or acquisition communities. Knowledgeable in the Federal Government and DoD budget planning, acquisition processes, and program lifecycle. Experience in developing business cases and proposals for internal and external partners. Ability to lead cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams. Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Ability to travel up to 25-35%. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $281,000.00- $421,000.00/ annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
