<p>The Unit Secretary provides clerical support to department managers, staff, physicians, and patients in accordance with hospital policies. Responsibilities include Meditech data entry, filing, answering phones and call lights, and maintaining organized communication. Works under general instruction and supports efficient unit operations while promoting a professional and welcoming environment.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These are the essential job functions for this position. The essential functions of this job include, but may not be limited to those listed in this job description. Employees hired for this position must be able to perform the essential function of this job without imposing significant risk of substantial harm to the health or safety of themselves or others):</p> <ul> <li>Attends nursing station, performs clerical and reception duties, and requisitions supplies, equipment and services as directed. </li><li>Assembles and charts information about patients, such as temperature, pulse and respiration. </li><li>Posts and distributes information according to procedures or specific direction. </li><li>Maintains daily census and other pertinent records, checks records for completeness, transfers doctor's notes to appropriate forms. </li><li>Performs clerical work for admissions, transfer and discharge of patients according to established standards. </li><li>Interacts with visitors, patients, members of medical and nursing staff and other departments. </li><li>Answers patient call lights and in-coming telephone calls. </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Must demonstrate technical competence, professional clinical judgment, communication skills and sensitivity for the patient and families </li><li>Prior experience in clerical/general office, including typing, filing, sorting, records maintenance, and chart sorting preferred </li><li>Strong customer service skills required to communicate with patients, departmental internal/external clients, staff, and physicians </li><li>Must possess the ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, use time management skills, and problem-solve. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION:</p> <ul> <li>High School Graduate or equivalent </li></ul> <p>LICENSURES/CERTIFICATION:</p> <ul> <li>Must successfully complete and maintain LA County Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment </li></ul> <p>MUST HAVES:</p> <p>All required licensures, certifications, mandatory education; along with annual occupational health screenings must be completed prior to the expiration date or by the end of the month in which they are due. Reference the Educational Requirements: Must Haves, Mandatory and Unit Based policy (in electronic policy management system) for the specific requirements for this position.</p>
