Ensures that repairs are performed to specifications. </li><li>Performs service calls in the field. Prioritizes and schedules maintenance. </li><li>Performs initial inspections. </li><li>Assists others with complex repairs and diagnosis. </li><li>Reads and interprets repair manuals and schematics. </li><li>Diagnoses and repairs electronic engines, heavy equipment, specialized equipment, electronic transmissions, antilock braking systems, electrical systems, multiplex systems, air conditioning and heating systems, steering systems, fuel systems, and suspensions. </li><li>Rebuilds and repairs fire pump transmissions, fire truck valves, water pumps, transfer cases, differentials, brakes, power steering boxes, and engines. </li><li>Performs failure analysis. </li><li>Repairs tires. Installs after-market accessories. </li><li>Assist master welder by providing minor to intermediate welding, fabrication and cutting jobs. </li><li>Works in a team effort to help the maintenance and service operations become successful. </li><li>Maintains record of repairs to vehicles by posting data into the fleet management software. </li><li>Adheres to safety guidelines. Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>High school diploma (or equivalent) with five current NIASE certifications from the approved department list and four years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience or three years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience with the City of Savannah Vehicle Maintenance Department; or</p> <p>High school diploma or GED with four current NIASE certifications from the approved department list and five years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience or four years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience with the City of Savannah Vehicle Maintenance Department; or </p> <p>High school diploma or GED with three current NIASE certifications from the approved department list and six years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience or five years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience with the City of Savannah Vehicle Maintenance Department; or </p> <p>High school diploma or GED with two current NIASE certifications from the approved department list and seven years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience or six years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience with the City of Savannah Vehicle Maintenance Department; or </p> <p>High school diploma or GED with no current NIASE certifications from the approved department list and nine years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience or seven year of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience with the City of Savannah Vehicle Maintenance Department; or </p> <p>No high school diploma or GED and no current NIASE certifications from the approved department list and ten years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience or eight years of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience with the City of Savannah Vehicle Maintenance Department. Must possess and maintain a valid state Commercial Driver's license with an acceptable driving history.</p> <p>Must possess and maintain a valid state Commercial Driver's license with an acceptable driving history.</p> <p>Work Schedule: M-F 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of shop safety guidelines. </li><li>Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment. </li><li>Skill in the diagnosis and repair of equipment failures. </li><li>Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work. </li><li>Skill in the use of hand and power tools. </li><li>Skill in the interpretation of manuals and schematics. </li><li>Skill in oral and written communication </li></ul> <p>Minimum Standards:</p> <p>SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. </p> <p>GUIDELINES: Guidelines include standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and city policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. </p> <p>COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related mechanical repair and maintenance duties. The volume of work, the variety of equipment, and rapid technological changes contribute to the complexity of the position.</p> <p>SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to participate in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Successful performance in this position results in the efficiency and effectiveness of shop operations. </p> <p>PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, vendors, and members of the general public. </p> <p>PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, provide services, and resolve problems. </p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an automotive repair shop. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective equipment, such as masks, goggles, or gloves. </p>
