<p>POSITION SUMMARY</p> <p>Provides excellent customer service by assisting library patrons with locating library resources, answering reference questions, referrals to community resources, and providing detailed technology assistance. Plans, develops, and delivers adult programs and classes. Serves as Person in Charge as scheduled.</p> <p>REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS</p> <p>Reports to: Adult Services Supervisor</p> <p>Direct Reports: None</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Customer Service, Program Development, and Community Engagement 50%</p> <ul> <li>Uses high-level customer service skills to determine and respond to patron needs. Creates a positive inviting atmosphere for all patrons. </li><li>Provides library information, technology assistance, referrals, reader's advisory guidance, and library account assistance. </li><li>Supports patron access to and awareness of digital resources. </li><li>Helps monitor and troubleshoot technology provided for patrons, including public computers and Tech lab equipment </li><li>Provides leadership for planning, promoting, implementing and evaluating adult programs and classes; monitors expenditures within budget guidelines </li><li>Develops and coordinates outreach partnerships throughout the community. </li><li>Selects and delivers materials for patrons at outreach locations on a regular basis. </li><li>Researches and updates current information on community resources. </li><li>May represent the library at school, community group, business or government meetings or events. </li></ul> <p>Operational Support 25%</p> <ul> <li>Leads special projects as delegated by the Adult Services Supervisor. </li><li>Provides input and recommendations on all aspects of the library's performance including services, programs, information technology, workflows, facility design and organization. </li><li>Participates in the responsibility for the general appearance and safety of the Library as a whole. Assists in opening and closing procedures. </li><li>Serves as Person in Charge as scheduled. </li><li>Addresses and resolves complaints from patrons; practices de-escalation techniques and cooperates with security personnel to ensure patron and staff safety. </li><li>Keeps current on Library policies and procedures. Monitors adherence to policies and procedures and/or communicates policies to patrons as necessary. </li><li>Stays current on new trends and technologies in library service. Stays aware of library services and programs as well as current activities of the department and City. Attends library conferences within budget parameters and takes advantage of networking and training opportunities to advance professional development. </li><li>May participate in City committees and taskforces. </li><li>Collect, tabulate, maintain data and prepare standardized reports. </li><li>May recruit, train and work directly with volunteers. </li></ul> <p>Collection Maintenance 25%</p> <ul> <li>Purchases for designated collections in collaboration with the Collection Development Team. </li><li>Assists with evaluating and maintaining the existing collection through recommendations and weeding of materials in accordance with established guidelines. </li><li>Develops and utilizes reader's advisory tools to increase patron usage of collection </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in library and information science from an accredited program and </li></ul> <p>Work Experience</p> <ul> <li>2 years of progressively responsible experience in a public library setting preferred. </li></ul> <p>Certifications and/or Licensures</p> <ul> <li>None </li></ul> <p>Required Driver's License</p> <ul> <li>Yes </li></ul> <p>An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Working Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Use of general office technology and familiarity with basic library systems </li><li>Trends in library services, information technology, and publishing </li></ul> <p>Skills & Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Communicate with patrons in a professional, friendly and age-appropriate manner </li><li>Ability to deal with stressful situations with tact and diplomacy </li><li>Work productively in a team environment; provide informal leadership and support for colleagues </li><li>Analytical skills to monitor budgets and evaluate effective use of resources </li><li>Consistently and accurately follow detailed procedures </li><li>Ability to speak effectively to community and professional groups </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Work is performed in a standard library environment, requiring standing for extended periods of time. Work may also be performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs.).
