<p>Division: Community Health</p> <p>WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - Part-Time #958</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY: A WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is a paraprofessional support person who gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women. This position requires excellent communication skills, and intermediate computer ability.</p> <p>SALARY: $21.90 per hour</p> <p>HOURS: 28 hours per week, Requires flexible scheduling. Clinics open Mon-Fri between the hours of 7am and 6pm. Additional availability is required outside of regular clinic days and office hours to meet the needs of the participants</p> <p>JOB FUNCTION:</p> <ul> <li>Promote breastfeeding in WIC clinic and the community. May also include out of office support as determined by WIC program and community needs. </li><li>Support WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in individual and group settings by providing answers to basic breastfeeding questions, explaining the benefits of breastfeeding, and how to overcome common barriers. </li><li>Provide guidance to pregnant women preparing for their hospital experience and first few days, weeks, and months of breastfeeding. </li><li>Establish and maintain relationships with WIC pregnant and breastfeeding moms by conducting follow-ups throughout pregnancy and post-partum. </li><li>Documents all participant contacts per local agency procedures. </li><li>Respects participant confidentiality. </li><li>Refer participants to appropriate staff. </li><li>Able to work with other WIC staff to coordinate appropriate care for participant. </li><li>Completes trainings as required. </li><li>Follows local agency processes, policies, and procedures. </li><li>Perform other duties within the scope of the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Must have breastfed at least one baby within the last 5 years but does not need to be currently breastfeeding. </li><li>Enthusiasm for breastfeeding </li><li>Bilingual (English & Spanish) </li><li>Have good verbal and written communication skills </li><li>Able to work independently </li><li>Safe driving skills and current valid driver's license are required. </li><li>Must have reliable transportation to drive to different clinic sites as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Must be able to successfully pass a background screening.</p> <p>McHenry County is an equal opportunity employer.
