<p>Short Description:</p> <p>The Town of Castle Rock has an outstanding opportunity for an Animal Control Officer in our Police Department. This position is responsible professional and technical work investigating animal-related complaints and resolving issues as appropriate. This position issues summons and complaints and conducts follow-up activities to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances. The Animal Control Officer apprehends and impounds animals that are running loose or those that are mistreated by their owners. We welcome all that share those values to apply.</p> <p>Working for the Town of Castle Rock includes:</p> <ul> <li>The opportunity to make a difference in our community </li><li>Career Advancement Programs </li><li>Employee well-being program </li><li>Competitive total compensation with an excellent benefits package </li><li>Free membership to the MAC or Recreation Center </li><li>Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness eligible employee </li></ul> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Advises and educates citizens on animal-related municipal ordinances. </li><li>Investigates animal-related complaints and resolves issues as appropriate. </li><li>Enforces municipal ordinances by issuing summonses and conducting follow-up activities to ensure compliance with orders. </li><li>Interacts with citizens to identify and resolve issues of concern. </li><li>Appropriately apprehend, handle, and impound animals that are running loose or those that are mistreated by their owners. </li><li>Provide testimony to animal related cases at Municipal and State court levels. </li><li>Interact with citizens to identify and resolve issues of concern. </li><li>Prepares a variety of written reports and records on activities. </li><li>Research codes for adoption of amendments. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.</p> <p>Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent</p> <p>Experience: One (1) year working with both domestic and wild animals in a structured environment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience</p> <p>Licenses and/or Certifications Required:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Colorado Driver's License </li><li>Animal Control Officer Certification through the Animal Welfare Association of Colorado (AWAC) or obtain within one (1) year of employment. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to apply knowledge of the Town of Castle Rock Municipal Code and applicable town ordinances. </li><li>Ability to appropriately apprehend animals for safety, impoundment, and relocation. </li><li>Ability to capture and release or euthanize wildlife species based on animal welfare and public safety. </li><li>Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word and Excel. </li><li>Ability to maintain database and prepare written reports. </li><li>Ability to become familiar with New World system for report writing and dispatch of calls. </li><li>Excellent communications skills. </li><li>Ability to maintain integrity of confidential information. </li><li>Ability to work well with others and independently without direct supervision. </li><li>Ability to exercise discretion. </li><li>Ability to maintain composure and to work effectively when confronted with emotional suspects, victims and witnesses and vicious animals. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to exert moderate to strenuous, though not constant physical effort. May include exertion of heavy physical effort to include lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and animals of 75 pounds or more. </li><li>Frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, crawling, and/or twisting </li><li>Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools and electrical equipment as well as for driving equipment and vehicles </li><li>Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information </li><li>Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Physically access all sites within Town limits to perform duties, potentially in any weather and environmental conditions </li></ul> <p>Equipment Used:</p> <ul> <li>Catch poles, leashes, muzzles, human traps, euthanasia equipment, cages, hand tools, computers (phones, tablets and desktop computers). </li><li>This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment. </li></ul> <p>Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and fingerprint analysis prior to commencing employment.</p> <p>Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026</p> <p>The Town of Castle Rock is an equal opportunity employer.</p>
