Join our team and help us keep communities connected.</p> <p>Your Opportunity</p> <p>The Production CAD Manager/Civil Designer for Transportation will work with transportation engineers and project managers to continually monitor and produce transportation drawings. Innovative ways to improve production standards and quality will be expected. The Production CAD Manager for Transportation will perform a variety of tasks which will include CAD team leadership, quality control, management of templates & standards, teaching, supervisory duties, in addition to assisting with the preparation of deliverables for transportation projects across a variety of projects including roads, bridges, railroads, and other projects. This is a long-term career position not a "One & Done". You will be an important Stantec team member that is shaping the future of California and North America. One of the first long-term high-profile assignments would be working on California High Speed Rail Design for Merced to Madera.</p> <p>Your Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Under the supervision of the project Lead Civil Engineer your key responsibilities will include:</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the drawing production of varying size transportation projects including roads, bridges, railroads and others.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure client CAD standards are followed by internal staff and subconsultants.</p> </li><li> <p>Audit internal and external (subconsultant) drawing production activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Compile drawing sets for large-scale design project in addition to being responsible for client submission of electronic files including PDF's and native files.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate drawing standards and production activities with subconsultants.</p> </li><li> <p>Under the supervision of civil designers, support design activities which may include development of profiles, details, models, grading, plan sets to support roadway, drainage, grading, utility, track and other various types of design improvements.</p> </li><li> <p>Establish CAD standards, file structures, reference files and workspaces for projects with internal (Stantec work-sharing) and external sub consultant team members. This includes developing workflows and establishing processes for onboarding new production staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Establish work plans and cost & schedule estimates for delivery of conceptual and design CADD models and drawings.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with digital practice team on project setup and to resolve problems that arise during the life cycle of a project. This also includes participating in meetings with representatives of software developers to resolve project specific needs of the design team.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee and coordinate CAD modelling & production team during development and production of these drawings. This includes staff resource allocations & reallocations over the course of projects and pursuits.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate CAD modelling & production team with other disciplines, consultants and subconsultants during projects and pursuits.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain communication with other CAD managers and discipline leads within the organization to ensure consistent practices & standards and for resource collaboration discussions.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate, track and logs QA/QC and design decision related documentation for project deliverables - carefully following both Stantec and client quality requirements. This may include performing regular quality reviews of CAD models and drawings.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct periodic CAD staff work assignment meetings and technical CAD workshops / sessions for CAD staff. Also, encourage CAD staff to present CAD related topics at these meetings for good engagement and team morale.</p> </li><li> <p>Stay current with new CAD technology, trends, tools, and practices in the industry through reading technical articles and attending occasional workshops & seminars.</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly review and become familiar with CAD standards of both Stantec and Stantec's clients.</p> </li><li> <p>Responsible for managing and regularly maintaining a functional library of transportation CAD standards, documents, templates, sample drawings & details and other supporting files which correspond to Stantec's and clients' CAD standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct supervisor responsibilities for CAD staff such as checking and approving time sheets, performing annual performance reviews, and establishing and reviewing annual CAD staff goal setting.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in identifying and coordinating software training for CAD staff when required. This includes self-guided web-based training as well as formal in class training.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists Stantec IT with monitoring CAD staff hardware and software inventory and advises CAD staff when new software updates and roll outs are required.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally develop new CAD standards - including guidelines documents, templates, sample drawings and supporting files - for new projects / pursuits. These may be similar to Stantec or client standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally maintain project CAD-related data on Stantec project servers or web-based platforms over the course of projects and pursuits.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee and coordinate final archiving of CAD, model, and other design related documents / files at the completion of projects / pursuits.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist CAD staff with CAD file and model troubleshooting when required</p> </li><li> <p>Provide active mentoring to CAD staff within department. Will be responsible for hiring and retaining CAD staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Some travel may be required.</p> </li><li> <p>Virtual meetings will be used as much as possible.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Your Capabilities and Credentials</p> <ul> <li> <p>California High Speed Rail experience is desired.</p> </li><li> <p>Effective communication skills and aptitude for leadership of the transportation CAD group.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong ability to effectively identify and discuss project issues within Project Teams.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent time-management skills and ability to work independently. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding of project scoping, task identification and resource assignments, scheduling, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources.</p> </li><li> <p>A willingness to provide mentoring and share technical knowledge with junior designers to support the growth and technical excellence of the team.</p> </li><li> <p>Thorough understanding of applicable design guidelines and codes for relevant jurisdictions.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability and understanding to work with direct reports to set career goals and support progress to achieving them.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong knowledge of rail and transit, highways, local roads, and utilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong eye for detail and understanding of quality management systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficient in managing within a ProjectWise environment is critical.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on design build projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong understanding and proficiency in the use of relevant design software, which includes MicroStation (Caltrans, CHSR, Metrolink), AutoCAD (most other agencies and private work) and Civil3D. QC-QA reviews and audits will be done using Bluebeam Review.</p> </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li> <p>Engineering or Architecture Design Degree or Drafting Diploma is desired.</p> </li><li> <p>A minimum of 15 years of experience working on large-scale transportation projects is a must.</p> </li><li> <p>Additional experience may be substituted for a diploma or degree.</p> </li></ul> <p>Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
