Benefits</p> <p>Full-time employee benefits include:</p> <ul> <li>Comprehensive Health Benefits and Rewards for Wellness Incentives </li><li>Generous Paid Time Off </li><li>Family/Parental Leave </li><li>Tuition Waivers at RIC, CCRI & URI </li><li>Retirement Plan </li><li>Long-term Disability Coverage </li><li>Variety of voluntary add-on's </li></ul> <p>For a complete listing, visit:</p> <p>http://www.employeebenefits.ri.gov/benefits/new/index.php</p> <p>FLSA Exempt Branch of Service non-classified AA/EEO/ADA Statement</p> <p>As an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity institution that values and is committed to inclusion and expanding the diversity of its faculty and staff, the College invites members of protected classes, including minorities and persons with disabilities, to identify themselves as such at the time of application.</p> <p>Position Information</p> <p>Position Title Assistant Professor, Educational Studies - World Language Education (Tenure-Track) Joint Appointment Department Name Educational Studies Department Academic or Calendar Year academic Full Time / Part Time full-time Position Summary</p> <p>We seek a dynamic colleague who can help provide leadership to the program in World Languages Education and a commitment for developing students and teachers to their fullest potential.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate (K-12) Methods courses in World Languages Education </li><li>Supervise and coordinate field experiences for pre-service teachers and supervise student teaching placements. </li><li>Recruit and advise prospective and current students, providing guidance on academic programs, career pathways, and professional development opportunities </li><li>Collaborate with faculty in other teacher preparation programs and departments to certify all teacher candidates and educators have foundational skills for working with emergent bilingual learners. </li><li>Collaborate with TESOL, Bilingual Education and Modern Languages faculty to maintain, grow, evaluate, and revise program offerings as needed. </li><li>Collect data on the World Languages Education program for accreditation purposes. </li><li>Assist in tasks related to applying for and maintaining state and national accreditation. </li><li>Develop working relationships with local school districts. </li><li>Engage in scholarly research and professional activities. </li><li>Seek external funding to support research and program development. </li><li>Participate in college and department activities according to the AFT contract. </li></ul> <p>Occasional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department chair. </li><li>Attend department and campus functions, especially during New Student Orientation, Accepted Students' Day and Commencement. </li></ul> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated effectiveness in classroom teaching at the K-12. </li><li>Demonstrated effectiveness in classroom teaching at the university level. </li><li>Demonstrated or planned scholarly research agenda focused on World Languages, secondary education, or teacher education </li><li>Proficiency in at least one world language other than English, with the ability to model effective language instruction. </li><li>Ability to coach, mentor and support pre-service and in-service teachers in diverse field-based educational settings. </li><li>Commitment to collaborative work with students, colleagues, and community partners. </li><li>Knowledge of current trends in language education, including proficiency-based instruction, technology integration, and culturally responsive teaching. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Doctorate in Language Education and Multilingualism, World Languages Education, Educational Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition or a related field. (ABD with completion by start date). </li><li>Teaching multilingual learners and experience teaching second and foreign languages at the post-secondary level. </li><li>Experience teaching world language pedagogy at the post-secondary level. </li><li>Supervising pre-service teachers in field experiences and collaborating with local schools. </li><li>Leading professional development activities for language education. </li><li>Developing accreditation reports for state and/or national organizations. </li></ul> <p>Required Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching multilingual learners and experience teaching second and foreign languages at the post-secondary level. </li><li>Experience teaching world language pedagogy at the post-secondary level. </li><li>Supervising pre-service teachers in field experiences and collaborating with local schools. </li><li>Leading professional development activities for language education. </li><li>Developing accreditation reports for state and/or national organizations </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Minimum 2 - 3 years' experience as a World Languages educator in K-12 settings. </li><li>Experience as a World Languages educator at the university level. </li><li>Experience teaching multilingual learners and experience teaching second and foreign languages </li><li>Experience with student enrollment, progression, and completion efforts (e.g. recruitment, advisement, etc.) </li><li>Evidence of effective teaching Bilingual Education, ESOL, or related topics. </li><li>Recruitment and advising prospective and current students </li><li>Experience in the preparation of teachers of world languages and/or multilingual learners. </li><li>Record of impactful scholarship with the potential for national visibility. </li><li>Conduct and publish research in World Language Education and related fields. </li><li>Experience advocating for multilingual education at the community, district, or statewide level. </li><li>Experience teaching online or hybrid courses. </li><li>Ability to develop grants that support language education </li></ul> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <p>Teaching/instruction is performed in a traditional classroom setting and sometimes on-line.</p>
