<p>About the Role:</p> <p>Join Gusto's Time engineering team as a Senior Backend Engineer (L5) and play a key role in shaping the future of how businesses manage time. You'll be responsible for designing, building, and scaling high-performance APIs that power our time tracking and payroll integrations. As a member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, contribute to a product that makes a real difference, and grow your skills alongside some of the best engineers in the industry.</p> <p>Here's what you'll do day-to-day:</p> <ul> <li>Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs for time tracking, scheduling, and payroll integration. </li><li>Collaborate with product managers and designers to define API specifications and ensure seamless integration with other Gusto products. </li><li>Lead the technical design and implementation of new features and enhancements to our time management platform. </li><li>Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical guidance and support. </li><li>Write clean, well-documented, and testable code. </li><li>Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving our engineering practices. </li><li>Work with large-scale data stores and optimize for performance and reliability. </li><li>Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to time-tracking and API functionality. </li></ul> <p>Here's what we're looking for:</p> <ul> <li>10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend development. </li><li>8+ years of experience building and maintaining backend systems. </li><li>3+ years of experience designing, developing, and deploying RESTful APIs. </li><li>Strong understanding of API design principles and best practices. </li><li>Experience with relational databases and data modeling. </li><li>Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Go). </li><li>Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure). </li><li>Experience with written communication and collaboration skills. </li><li>Experience with Ruby on Rails is a plus. </li><li>Prior experience in a technical leadership role is a plus. </li></ul> <p>Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $170,000-$202,000 in Denver, $185,000-$219,000 for Los Angeles and most remote locations, $199,000-$247,000 for San Francisco, New York, and Seattle. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience, level, and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.</p>
