Discover your opportunities at Yale!</p> <p>Hourly Range</p> <p>$31.05</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>Reporting to the Manager of Financial Analysis for the FAS, the position serves as a Financial Assistant providing a high level of financial and administrative support for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) finance team, as well as be a central resource within the FAS, Yale College, and Graduate School. This position will be expected to centrally support units, as assigned, with financial tasks, such as assisting with managing research accounts (processing expense reports, interacting with faculty and departments for documentation and assessing the appropriateness of an expense on a research account), payroll accounting adjustments (PAAs) and journal entries (JEs). This position will also assist the Manager of Financial Analysis and the finance team with various financial projects as necessary.</p> <p>Required Skills and Abilities</p> <ol> <li> <p>Ability to run financial reports from various systems, such as Workday, PowerBI, and YBT. Ability to develop Excel spreadsheets as a result of having advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding of all requirements needed for a PSCA, soul source and statement of work.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent attendance and punctuality. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to remain flexible and work independently while juggling job responsibilities for multiple departments. Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Highly developed and demonstrated customer service skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment with coworkers, faculty and others. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated ability to use Workday (WD). Ability to be proficient in creating WD requisitions, journal entries, and learning various WD reports. Ability to read and understand WD Portfolio Reports. Ability to use Microsoft Office software applications (Word and Excel) with the ability to compile database extractions, sort data and create pivot tables using Excel.</p> </li></ol> <p>Preferred Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of Yale University policies and procedures in relation to financials, such as checklists, travel guidelines, reimbursements, honoraria, and others for both sponsored and non-sponsored funds. </li><li>Experience using Workday financials. </li><li>Prior experience in a higher education setting, providing financial support to faculty, staff, and students. </li></ul> <p>Principal Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li>Drafts preliminary financial sections of proposals. 2. Reviews all proposals for accuracy, completeness, and compliance to grantor and University requirements and regulations. 3. Monitors, controls, and maintains financial activity of accounts. Ensures expenditures are posted to proper accounts. Identifies, researches, and corrects questionable expenditures. 4. Serves as the principal source of information on financial policies and procedures and financial activity. 5. Reconciles and analyzes financial statements. Prepares standardized and specialized financial reports and analyses. 6. Oversees and instructs support staff. 7. Oversees the maintenance of financial records and files. 8. Assists with the development and implementation of systems and procedures. 9. May calculate weekly payroll for department staff. 10. Performs clerical functions incidental to accounting activities.
