<p>Position Description:</p> <p>The Department of Literacy and Multilingual Studies at Mercy University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position for the 2026-2027 academic year. We are seeking a collaborative, student-centered educator who brings both teaching expertise and leadership ability. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality instruction with a particular focus on supporting the organization, communication, and continuous improvement of our undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs. Some evenings and weekends may be required.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities:</p> <p>Teaching:</p> <ul> <li>Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy education, including instructional methods, foundations, and colloquia </li><li>Advise and mentor students across stages of the teacher preparation process </li><li>Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and departmental initiatives </li><li>Maintain a commitment to culturally responsive, inclusive, and evidence-based instruction </li><li>Participate actively in school, university, and professional service </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Earned doctorate in Literacy Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field </li><li>Demonstrated teaching excellence, organizational, and communication skills </li><li>Familiarity with teacher certification standards and state education requirements, particularly in New York </li><li>Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive education </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience teaching in higher education </li><li>Minimum of three years of teaching experience in P-12 schools </li><li>Experience teaching literacy in P-12 schools </li><li>Knowledge of accreditation processes (e.g., CAEP) and assessment practices </li></ul> <p>Similar Jobs:</p> <p>Admissions Counselor (P00122)</p> <p>Mercy University seeks a dynamic and energetic individual to join our team at the Dobbs Ferry Campus as an Admissions Counselor.
