Instructional Aide Disabilities works with an assigned caseload of single children or small groups of children having special needs andor challenging behaviors and regularly interfaces with educational and program staff to assure that students are meeting individual development plans and progress objectives Talks with educational and program staff regarding student progress facilitates positive interactions and acceptance Performs clerical and technical support to the Disabilities services area and shares observations to improve progress POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Work with teachers and program staff to understand the context of specific disabilities in relation to classroom behaviors and learning needsReview individual development plans and communicate with teaching staff about methods and tools to facilitate learningAssist center based teaching staff by providing temporary one on one support for children with special needs andor challenging behaviors as assigned by the Disabilities ManagerDevelop positive relationships with hisher assigned students based on patience understanding and respectAssist children in developing positive peer relationships master self help skills follow safety rules and reach their full potentialConsiders learning objectives and instructional techniques related to the lesson plansProvide comments that can be integrated into childrens evaluation and planningAssists teaching staff and the Disabilities Manager in monitoring and documenting the childrens progress and maintains comprehensive filesAssists the Disabilities Manager in setting up and conducting staff and parent training to provide skills to meet the needs of special needs children and to disseminate information Ability to work with children of varying abilities and adhere to Individual Educational Plans IEPIndividual Family Service Plans IFSPAdheres to and implements agency policies and proceduresProvides culturally and linguistically appropriate customer service to parents children community representativesmembers and all PACE staff dailyAccurately completes all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis according to agency policies and federal share through the access of community resources services donations discounts andor goods Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Education and Work ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent is required Education or coursework related to child development special education counseling or another related field from an accredited college or university is requiredMust have some behavior training and experienceTwo 2 years of experience working with children with special needschallenging behaviors including experience working with children with IEPsIFSPsKnowledge and SkillsAbility to effectively collect record and interpret behavior data and use the data information to develop behavior plans Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills Must have good organizational time management writtenoral communication and observation skillsBasic computer skills required including knowledge of
