Must be available to work additional hours as needed.</p> <p>Who May Apply?</p> <p>All persons legally authorized to work in the United States</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>The Animal Cruelty Specialist will be responsible for the investigation of animal cruelty complaints from neglect, animal hoarding, misdemeanor and felony level offenses. They will be responsible for the enforcement of City ordinances and State laws concerning cruelty to animals and other criminal activities related to Animal Care Services.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Respond to and investigate complaints of animal cruelty. </li><li>Prepare cases for administrative and criminal trial, take documentation of animals, interview of witnesses, owners and suspects. </li><li>Maintain working relationship with ACS Veterinarian concerning medical reports. </li><li>Responsible for chain of custody and transportation of animals impounded or seized as evidence in alleged cruelty to animal complaints. </li><li>Provide information to the public of the City's and State's Animal Cruelty statutes as well as education about the City Ordinances pertaining to animal care and handling. </li><li>Enforce ordinances and laws pertaining to animals specifically cruelty to and neglect of animals. </li><li>Issue citations to animal owners for code violations. </li><li>Develop and maintain positive communications and working relationships with City Departments, outside agencies and organizations and law enforcement personnel. </li><li>Investigate animal hoarding incidents, notifying Adult Protective Services and Code Enforcement of related violations. </li><li>May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Requires a High School diploma or GED </li><li>Minimum of three (3) years of related experience </li><li>Basic Animal Control Officer certification required or must obtained within six (6) months of hire. Must continue education credits of 30 hours over each three (3) year period. </li><li>National Cruelty Investigation certification required within three (3) years of hire </li><li>Must be able to pass a CJIS background </li><li>A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire </li></ul> <p>Other Information:</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>The City offers an excellent benefit package that includes:</p> <ul> <li>Texas Municipal Retirement System - TMRS is a required retirement plan for all full-time employees.
