<p>Part-time opportunity with our Fire Department!</p> <p>This is an hourly position, limited to working approximately 19 hours per week or 1000 hours annually, whichever comes first. This position is non-benefitted and is designated as a non-classified, at-will position. </p> <p>The Station Runner assignment is a part-time hourly position located at the City of Modesto Fire or Police Department. This position is primarily responsible for cleaning department vehicles and delivering equipment and supplies to and from the warehouse to the different public safety facilities associated with Modesto Fire or Police Department.</p> <p>APPLICATION PROCESS</p> <p>Applicants will be assessed on the application submitted. Due to the volume of applications received, resumes will not be screened for the purpose of determining who is most qualified to compete in the testing process. It is the applicant's responsibility to fill out the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of their application with complete information and adequate detail. Do not substitute any part of the application form with the words "SEE RESUME."</p> <p>The following information is provided for you to use as a reference and as a planning tool. Human Resources is unable to schedule make-up examinations. We are committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. </p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>Drive and operate department vehicles safely.</p> <p>Washing and cleaning department vehicles.</p> <p>Deliver equipment and supplies to public safety facilities.</p> <p>Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.</p> <p>Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.</p> <p>Marginal Functions:</p> <p>Perform related duties as assigned. Knowledge of:</p> <p>Tools and equipment used for fire suppression and emergency medical calls.</p> <p>Location of facilities associated with Modesto Fire and Police departments and contracted agencies and vendors.</p> <p>How to operate pallet jacks and lift gates.</p> <p>Best practices to ensure vehicles are properly cleaned.</p> <p>Ability to:</p> <p>Understand, follow, and carry out oral and written instructions.</p> <p>Think clearly, quickly, and accurately in emergencies.</p> <p>Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.</p> <p>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.</p> <p>Experience and Training Guidelines:</p> <p>Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>When assigned to Fire Department:</p> <p>None required. Knowledge of Fire Department procedures desirable.</p> <p>When assigned to Police Department:</p> <p>None required. Modesto Police Department Explorer experience highly desirable.</p> <p>Training:</p> <p>Currently enrolled in high school or high school diploma or GED equivalency.</p> <p>License/Certificates:</p> <p>Possession of a valid California driver's license.</p> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <p>Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.</p> <p>When assigned to Police Department:</p> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <p>Candidates are subject to an extensive background investigation including fingerprinting.</p> <p>Individuals hired will be required to wear a uniform which is provided by the Police Department.Mobility: frequent standing or sitting for long periods of time; frequent bending or squatting. Lifting: frequently up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 25 pounds. Vision: constant use of overall vision; frequent reading and close-up work; occasional color and depth vision. Dexterity: frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing; frequent grasping, holding, and reaching. Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking. Emotional/Psychological: frequent decision-making and concentration; frequent public and/or coworker contact; occasional working alone. Environmental: frequent exposure to noise.</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Conditions will vary depending on assignment. Work may also be performed in a typical outdoor environment on a year-round basis subject to street or field noise and year-round weather conditions. Duties may include some recreation-related field noise. Work often occurs at remote locations. Positions may require weekend work.</p>
