<p>Position Type:</p> <p>High School Teaching/English</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>4/3/2026</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>PLATTE CANYON HIGH SCHOOL</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>08/04/2026</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>07/03/2026</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Platte Canyon School District RE 1</p> <p>Human Resources</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>TITLE: Secondary English Teacher (6-12) Contract Length: 162 days</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Building Principal</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Colorado Alternative, Provisional or Professional Teaching License with endorsements for the levels and subject areas in the major (51% or more) areas of assignment. </li><li>Pass the PLACE or PRAXIS II Test or have 24 semester credits in minor areas of </li><li>assignment. </li><li>First Aid Certification obtained within 90 days following the first date on the job. </li></ul> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Plan and deliver standards-aligned English instruction in a classroom setting based on approved curriculum. </li><li>Use formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction. </li><li>Create and manage a classroom environment that promotes learning, positive student behavior, and contributes to the school culture as a whole. </li><li>Use research-based instruction strategies and classroom practices. </li><li>Implement assigned portions of students' Individualized Education Programs ("IEP") and/or Individual Literacy Plans and/or Gifted-Talented Program Plans. </li><li>Assess the learning, achievement, and performance of each student and report the results as required by District Policy and school procedures. A grade shall be issued to each student at the completion of each grade level for each subject and for each high school course as required by Policy. </li><li>To the extent feasible, foster student skills for life-long learning including: reading and </li></ul> <p>writing skills, use of learning resources including library skills, computer applications and use of technological resources, contextual skills (applications of the knowledge and skills students acquire), career and job awareness including connections with the business</p> <p>community, and creative thinking, expression and problem solving.</p> <ul> <li>Model, promote, and as situations arise, take the opportunity to provide instruction related to character education including citizenship and responsible behavior (respect for self, others and property), bullying prevention, conflict resolution skills, and responsible work habits and ethics. </li><li>Instruct with adopted textbooks and use supplemental classroom materials, media and technology appropriate for assigned levels and subjects. </li><li>Implement education extensions (homework, speakers, trips and excursions, and animals in the classroom in keeping with Board Policy. </li><li>Provide safety instruction for students when the subject, activities, chemicals, products, tools and/or equipment pose possible harm or injury to students including use of personal </li></ul> <p>protective devices (protective eye devices, safe clothing) and assure that students adhere to safety requirements.</p> <ul> <li>Maintain religious neutrality when teaching or engaged in activities with students. Adhere to Policy with regard to teaching about religion and religious holidays. </li><li>Maintain positive, professional working relationships with students. </li><li>Consistently enforce the Student Conduct Code, including the Student Dress Code. </li><li>Supervise students to minimize any possibility of violent behavior and to minimize potential accidents. </li><li>Be knowledgeable of the District's Policy regarding prohibition of discrimination and harassment and do not engage in discriminating or harassing behavior. </li><li>Adhere to Policy requirements for purchasing supplies, materials or equipment at District expense. </li><li>Be familiar with and abide by all applicable Federal and Colorado laws and regulations; Board of Education policies and District Regulations, as amended from time to time; and school procedures that relate to employment with the District. </li><li>Additional job requirements: </li><li>Assure the safety and welfare of students including necessary actions to ensure that students are supervised at all times. </li><li>Demonstrate faithfulness and promptness in attendance at work. </li><li>Submit required reports promptly at the times specified. </li><li>Demonstrate care of and protection of School District property. </li><li>Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law. </li><li>Adhere to Staff Rules of Conduct. </li><li>Dress in a professional manner as specified in Policy. </li><li>Use the District's internet and E-mail system as specified in Policy. </li><li>Use District Resources as specified in Policy. </li><li>Participate in required Induction and Professional Growth Activities. </li><li>Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or their designees. </li></ul> <p>EVALUATION: Teachers (K-12) are evaluated annually by the Principal.Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Policies GCO and GCO-R: Evaluation of Licensed Staff.</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: All employees are directly or indirectly supervised by the Superintendent. Probationary Teachers are employed for one school year 162 days, except 165 days first year. Non-probationary Teachers are deemed to be continuously employed from year-to-year, subject</p> <p>to state law.</p> <p>Work Year: August-June 162 days per year, 8.25 hours per day (4-day week).</p> <p>Salary: Initial placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule, column is at the discretion of the Superintendent. Salary is an annual rate based on placement on the schedule. Work outside of regularly scheduled hours may be required to fulfill job duties and responsibilities. Work may need to be performed in narrow, poorly lighted, confined spaces.</p> <p>TOBACCO-FREE, DRUG-FREE, AND ALCOHOL- FREE SCHOOLS</p> <p>Smoking, chewing, or any other use of any tobacco products by staff, students, and members of the public is banned on school property in accordance with Platte Canyon School District Policy KFA. All illicit drugs, controlled substances and alcohol are banned from School District Property in accordance with Platte Canyon School District Policy GBEC.
