<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Physical Education Teacher - Middle School (2 Positions)</p> <p>Department: Physical Education & Wellness</p> <p>Position Type: Full-Time, Certified Teacher</p> <p>Reports To: Building Administration & Director of Arts</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>Enfield Public Schools seeks an enthusiastic and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to support middle school learners in developing lifelong fitness habits, essential motor skills, and personal wellness. This educator will foster a positive and inclusive environment where all students-regardless of ability or learning profile-can access high-quality PE instruction. The role emphasizes building physical, social, and self-management skills that help students succeed in schoolwide programming and daily life.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Instructional Practice & Learning Support</p> <ul> <li>Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate PE lessons aligned to district curriculum and national standards. </li><li>Use evidence-based strategies to strengthen physical literacy, fitness, and fundamental motor skills. </li><li>Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, fitness levels, and abilities. </li><li>Incorporate inclusive PE practices such as clear routines, visual supports, explicit modeling, scaffolding, and UDL-aligned lesson design. </li><li>Promote a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment emphasizing teamwork, effort, and respect. </li></ul> <p>Collaboration & Communication</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, and general education staff to ensure accessible PE experiences for all students. </li><li>Communicate frequently with families to support student progress and wellness habits. </li><li>Work with school counselors, nurses, and student support teams to promote whole-child well-being. </li></ul> <p>Assessment & Data Use</p> <ul> <li>Use rubrics, performance benchmarks, and skills assessments to monitor growth. </li><li>Adjust instruction based on data to provide targeted support or enrichment. </li><li>Maintain accurate student records in accordance with district expectations. </li></ul> <p>Student Development & Wellness Promotion</p> <ul> <li>Build student confidence, resilience, and personal responsibility regarding physical activity. </li><li>Reinforce character skills such as cooperation, sportsmanship, perseverance, and self-advocacy. </li><li>Encourage students to explore a wide range of physical activities that support lifelong wellness. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Valid Connecticut certification in Physical Education (044 or equivalent) & 043 Health, PK-12. </li><li>Strong understanding of child and adolescent development. </li><li>Ability to differentiate instruction and support a variety of skill levels. </li><li>Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. </li><li>Commitment to inclusive, student-centered wellness education. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Skills</p> <ul> <li>Experience working with middle school learners. </li><li>Familiarity with adapted/inclusive PE methods. </li><li>Ability to integrate fitness technology and activity tracking. </li><li>Experience incorporating social-emotional learning into PE instruction. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This role is part of a highly collaborative middle school team committed to fostering belonging, academic and personal growth, and holistic wellness.
