<p>MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS (MTSS) SPECIALIST</p> <p>SUMMARY DESCRIPTION</p> <p>The MTSS Specialist supports the development, coordination, and implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including Academic Intervention, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Restorative Practices (RP), and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) at Washoe County School District sites. The Specialist provides leadership and technical assistance to school personnel, delivers job-embedded coaching, facilitates professional development, and supports the implementation of equitable, data-driven systems that improve academic and behavioral outcomes for all students, PreK-12.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with district and site leaders to support system-wide implementation of MTSS, including academic and behavioral supports. </li><li>Provide leadership, coaching, and consultation to school sites in MTSS implementation with fidelity, including areas of academics, PBIS, RP, and SEL. </li><li>Provide leadership, coaching, and consultation for school staff in the implementation of Tiered academic curriculum and instructional supports. </li><li>Facilitate data-driven decision-making practices, including progress monitoring and intervention planning. </li><li>Deliver and organize professional development for school and district staff on MTSS, PBIS, RP, and SEL, customized to staff roles and levels of experience. </li><li>Serve as a liaison between school sites, district departments, and community organizations to align support services. </li><li>Stay current with research and literature related to MTSS, educational equity, SEL, and restorative approaches. </li><li>Coordinate and participate in planning sessions with school-based leadership teams, teacher cadres, and department staff. </li><li>Support school teams in identifying barriers and developing action plans for implementation. </li><li>Promote a positive, inclusive school climate through systemic practices and tiered supports. </li><li>Support staff in implementing interventions aligned to identified student needs, including behavior and academic supports. </li><li>Ensure practices comply with federal, state, and district policies regarding MTSS, student discipline, and school improvement. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:</p> <p>Education: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in School Administration, Counseling, School Psychology, Special or General Education or related field.</p> <p>Experience: Five (5) years of experience in education involving implementation of MTSS frameworks (e.g., PBIS, SEL, RP, academic interventions) and/or experience in school counseling, teaching, or educational leadership.</p> <p>Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Nevada educator license in a relevant subject area, or school counselor license. Qualification into the Teacher Leadership Pool.</p> <p>COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>MTSS frameworks, including RTI, PBIS, and SEL principles and best practices. </li><li>Educational assessment tools, progress monitoring systems, and intervention selection. </li><li>Federal, state, and WCSD policies and regulations related to student support systems, discipline, and instructional practices. </li><li>Implementation science and change management strategies in education settings. </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li>Effective communication, both verbal and written, and the ability to establish positive relationships within diverse communities. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Facilitate collaboration and build consensus among diverse stakeholders. </li><li>Design and deliver effective, differentiated professional development. </li><li>Analyze school and district data to inform decisions and monitor implementation fidelity. </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT?/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. If the qualified candidate selected is not currently in the Teacher Leadership Pool, they must meet annual requirements for professional learning and qualify for the WCSD Teacher Leadership Pool within three years.
