Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, this Cabinet-level administrator collaborates closely with district and building leaders, as well as all members of the PPS department, to support high-quality services for students and families. The successful candidate will demonstrate impeccable integrity, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and a comprehensive understanding of the full scope of pupil personnel services. Candidates must also possess deep expertise in federal and state special education laws, regulations, and policies, ensuring the district's programs remain compliant, student-centered, and aligned with best practices.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Schools, implement, administer, staff, and maintain the school district's pupil personnel programs and services in the areas of special education, psychology, related services, and social work in conjunction with district policies and vision; </li><li>Coordinate and supervise assistive technology for students with disabilities; </li><li>Assist with PPS/Special Education hiring process; </li><li>Ability to develop and implement professional development for staff; </li><li>Share supervision with building administrators of district's special education teachers, related service providers,school psychologists, and school social worker; </li><li>Supervise the CSE/504 process, collaborate with administrators and teaching staff as needed, ensure IEP/504's are implemented; </li><li>Review and coordinate all out of district placements for the school district; </li><li>Prepare and oversee budget related to pupil personnel programs and staffing; </li><li>Participation in impartial hearings, manifestation meetings, and the mediation/resolution process as required; </li><li>Oversee special education extended year summer program; </li><li>Responsible for completing NYSED special education data reports and other relevant reports as required; </li><li>Responsible for completing and overseeing 611/619 grants, including VR and indicator reports, and filing state aid documents; </li><li>Work closely and in collaboration with Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA); </li><li>Oversee the intake process for out-of-district tuition paying students; </li><li>Work with contracted medical professionals to ensure compliance with BOE policies, state education and county health policies; </li><li>Oversee School Nurses and medical needs of the district including health services; </li><li>Liaison to collective bargaining units and part of the district negotiating team. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Commitment to academic excellence for all children; </li><li>Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; </li><li>Experience in the evaluation and development of special education and related service personnel; </li><li>Ability to identify areas of need, collaboratively solve problems, and develop improvement plans; </li><li>Experience chairing CSE, CPSE, and 504 meetings; </li><li>Knowledge of federal and state special education laws, policies, and regulations. </li><li>New York State SDL or SDA Certification required; </li><li>Master's Degree and five years of school-based experience required; Doctorate preferred. </li></ul> <p>Employment Terms:</p> <ul> <li>12 month, probationary position, beginning July 1, 2026 </li><li>The salary range is $185,000 to $240,000 based on experience, academic credentials and a record of achievements. </li><li>Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
