<p>Embedded Software Engineer</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain real-time embedded systems supporting advanced hardware and defense applications. This role spans low-level firmware through application-layer development, with a strong focus on C/C++, RTOS environments, and hardware/software integration.</p> <p>You will contribute to complex systems such as sonar, underwater platforms, and defense technologies while collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software in real-time environments </li><li>Develop low-level and application-layer code using C/C++ and object-oriented principles </li><li>Integrate software with embedded hardware, peripherals, and communication interfaces </li><li>Optimize code for performance, reliability, and efficiency in resource-constrained systems </li><li>Implement networking functionality, including TCP/IP-based communication </li><li>Develop within RTOS environments (e.g., FreeRTOS) for task scheduling and concurrency </li><li>Debug embedded systems using tools such as debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers </li><li>Perform system-level testing and validation of embedded software performance </li><li>Collaborate with systems, hardware, and test teams to define requirements and resolve issues </li><li>Participate in code reviews to maintain quality and consistency across the codebase </li><li>Develop and maintain technical documentation (design specs, interfaces, user guides) </li><li>Support program milestones and compliance requirements for defense systems </li><li>Contribute to continuous improvement of tools, processes, and coding standards </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field </li><li>5+ years of experience in embedded software development </li><li>Strong proficiency in C/C++ and object-oriented programming </li><li>Experience developing in embedded environments (bare-metal and/or RTOS-based systems) </li><li>Familiarity with RTOS platforms (e.g., FreeRTOS or similar) </li><li>Experience with networking protocols, especially TCP/IP </li><li>Hands-on debugging experience with embedded tools and lab equipment </li><li>Solid understanding of hardware/software integration, device drivers, and SoC architectures </li><li>Experience working in Linux-based development environments </li><li>Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience with ARM-based embedded platforms </li><li>Background in defense systems (e.g., sonar, weapons systems, underwater technology) </li><li>Experience supporting Navy or maritime applications </li><li>Experience developing or maintaining embedded Linux systems </li><li>Familiarity with device driver development </li><li>Strong cross-functional collaboration experience </li><li>Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in complex systems debugging </li><li>Strong technical documentation skills </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This role is primarily onsite with some hybrid flexibility, depending on program needs. You will work in a hands-on lab and integration environment, interacting with hardware platforms and test equipment daily.</p> <p>The position supports government and defense programs and may involve collaboration with external facilities such as naval or underwater research centers. Flexible work schedules (e.g., 9/80, 4/10) are available, with a focus on accountability and results in a technically engaging environment.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Middletown, RI.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
