<p>The Director of Community Service is an administrative year faculty member primarily responsible for leading and administering the School's community service program, including oversight of the diploma requirement, student programming, external partnerships, and community engagement initiatives.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>As Director of Community Service:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Oversee and administer the School's community service program, ensuring alignment of the program with Choate's mission and values.</p> </li><li> <p>Every five years, evaluate program effectiveness through comprehensive data review in collaboration with the Director of Institutional Research.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversight of the Community Service Canvas page to ensure a streamlined hub for all information and sign-up opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Review and approve of all service reflections.</p> </li><li> <p>Review and approve upperform requests to "bank" hours from 3rd and/or 4th form year service hours.</p> </li><li> <p>Implement and monitor the community service diploma requirement for all students, collaborating with other colleagues as needed. Collaboration likely includes:</p> </li><li> <p>the Registrar for data accuracy and reporting out to advisers;</p> </li><li> <p>ITS for technical assistance;</p> </li><li> <p>the Director of Global Engagement regarding international student service.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan, organize, and execute the annual School-wide Community Service Day, assisted by the Community Service Advisory Committee.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise community service-related student clubs and organizations in collaboration with the Student Activities office.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate and lead the after-school Community Service Seminar during the academic year.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with the Parent and Community Relations Manager to build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with external partners at the local and regional levels.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate relief efforts in response to community or global crises.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage the Community Service budget.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee administration of the Community Service E. Mulford-Sonne grant.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in crafting and implementing policies related to community service.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Equity and Inclusion, Dean of Faculty, Head of Student and Academic Life, or Head of School.</p> </li></ul> <p>As an administrative faculty member:</p> <ul> <li>Teach no more than one course per term. </li><li>Advise students. </li><li>Supervise students in residential life as assigned. </li><li>Engage in ongoing professional development. </li></ul> <p>Secondary Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Attend weekly 1:1 meeting with the Dean of Equity and Inclusion. </li><li>Attend bi-weekly Student Resource Group meetings. </li><li>Attend weekly Equity & Inclusion team meetings. </li><li>Coordinate student award-winners related to service (John Kirby Simon '79 Community Service Award; Service-Above-Self Wallingford Rotary Award; etc..). </li><li>Support faculty and student service initiatives (i.e. athletic team/advising group service opportunities; service taking place on domestic and international trips in collaboration with the Director of Global Engagement). </li><li>Serve as liaison with Town of Wallingford service organizations. </li><li>Support events and programming related to service, civic engagement, and equity and inclusion. </li></ul> <p>Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.</p> <p>Prior experience:</p> <ul> <li>At least 5 years of experience working with adolescents in educational and/or service settings (preferably at the high school level). </li><li>Prior experience in creating, planning, and executing large-scale service programming for 1,000+ participants. </li><li>Prior program administration, student leadership, community engagement, and/or professional facilitation experience in an educational context strongly preferred. </li><li>Experience in program administration, student leadership, and community engagement. </li><li>Ability to teach in one of Choate's academic departments. </li></ul> <p>Licenses & Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut Public Passenger Endorsed (PPE) vehicle license preferred or the ability to obtain one before September 1, 2026. </li></ul> <p>Specialized training in:</p> <ul> <li>Community engagement, program development, and partnership building are highly preferred. </li></ul> <p>Other Key Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Effective collaboration with adults to support students. </li><li>Clear communication with students, colleagues, and families. </li><li>Ability to respond to a wide range of challenges presented by adolescents, supporting them within the scope of your training and abilities and/or directing them to additional resources as needed (e.g. Form Dean; Advisor) </li><li>Sound judgment and ability to remain calm under pressure. </li><li>Excellent organizational and time management skills. </li><li>Teambuilding skills; development and maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships </li><li>Strong oral, presentation, and written communication skills. </li><li>Problem solving and critical thinking skills. </li><li>Fluent (read/write/speak) in English. </li><li>Interpersonal skills-displays a high level of tact, diplomacy, and professionalism. </li><li>Proficiency in operating a computer-especially Microsoft, Google, Canvas, and Adobe. </li><li>Plans work activities and uses time efficiently. </li><li>Quality control-demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality </li><li>Adaptability-adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and frequently changing needs or unexpected events </li><li>Resilience-ability to do well in the face of stress, deploying effective self-care and coping strategies as needed and leveraging available resources. </li></ul>
