We build effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the College by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance to all and maintain an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) is seeking a dynamic and experienced adjunct professor or team pair of faculty with the requisite skills to join our Master of Architecture program for the Summer 2025 semester. The successful candidate(s) have construction skills, is a licensed architect, and will manage and teach the "Community Build" summer design and construction course, which is developed in two parts with a local non-profit community partner.</p> <p>An MOU between MassArt and the local non-profit, noting project goals, size parameter, program for the project, budget, location and other information will be provided prior to the commencement of the course.</p> <p>Salary: Adjuncts for the Grad Dept are paid according to their rank (Visiting Instructor, Senior Instructor, Visiting Professor etc.), which is determined after reviewing their application materials. Salary range: For 12 credits: $19,293.16-$22,264.44. For 6 credits: $9,646.56-$11,132.22</p> <p>. Bargaining Unit: Division of Graduate and Continuing Education.</p> <p>Course Description - Part I, Design</p> <p>The Community Build studio engages design, building, and a local community over the course of one project over one summer. Meeting the goals of clients and users, understanding the actual constraints of structure, material, permits, and time guide the scope of the work as students work toward delivering a finished built project. This course provides a perspective on the process of making with clear understanding of the objects, tools, and working processes that are represented in dimensional architectural drawings.</p> <p>Course Description - Part II, Build</p> <p>Part II engages the students who have completed Part I "DESIGN" and is the onsite portion of this two-part course. Leadership, collaboration and creative problem-solving are key to this phase of the project as students work as a team to complete a project. Work items include: budgeting, line item take-offs, purchasing materials; negotiating the material delivery, scheduling the work and building the project from foundation to completion.</p> <p>Courses are held in-person, throughout the summer and may be for one or a two-person team. This course enjoys a small student setting of up to 12 students. While you will retain autonomy to shape your classroom and learning experiences as best to fit your teaching style, you will also find the students arriving with shared relevant experiences - design and collaboration experience. Some students will bring construction experience. All or the students shall work under a consensus model, develop and play leadership roles in a broader design studio. In Part I - Meeting with the community partner, developing a final design project with construction documents and applying for permits with support of the faculty, and then in Part II, - searching materials appropriate for the project construction, developing and managing budgets, supporting project material buy-out, and in the construction phase of the courses. In the context of leadership, students respect, build community among themselves and in connection with the local community for whom the project is designed and built.</p> <p>Faculty for the project will not be required to stamp drawings, but will oversee the development of a permit set that meets local requirements and current Commonwealth of Massachusetts building codes. The faculty member(s) will be supported by the Director of the Master of Architecture and Chair of the Architecture Department.</p> <p>This is a part-time, contract position running 11 weeks in summer 2025</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Master of Architecture Degree </li><li>Licensure in MA </li><li>Support the development of design and construction documents for the project over 4 weeks 3 days a week, with milestones for each week and day, This includes design, client meetings (2) to review and then finalize design and materials. This is an iterative process to narrow design to one buildable project with design and materials approved by the client and with a budget meeting client goals - this will be set prior to the beginning of the course - by the Architecture Department. Agreement on final design is through consensus of students within the course. </li><li>Portfolio that notes ability in teaching, field work, design-build project detailing for small pavilions and or furniture scaled work, as per the design brief. These are small projects typically for communities in need. </li><li>Ability to support students in development of a design, in which they meet client budgets through consensus. This typically starts with students individually designing a small unenclosed pavilion or other project as outlined in a project brief, and then supporting students in collectively narrowing the project from many to one. </li><li>Manage students as they work toward finding and buying out materials to client budget </li><li>Support the development of student teamwork </li><li>Support students in the development of leadership skills and collaborative skills throughout the course. </li></ul> <p>Build:</p> <ul> <li>Licensure in MA as an Architect or Building Contractor </li><li>Demonstrable Construction Skills </li><li>Familiarity with Woodshop Tools and Training </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Degree in Architecture </li><li>Working Experience in Detailing </li><li>Construction skills and ability to teach framing, detailing for small projects from furniture to pavilions, and have run construction projects enabling supporting students in meeting budgets, and the course build timeframe (typically 7 weeks 4 full days a week) </li><li>Ability to manage students in a woodshop environment should this be required, working under approvals of shop manager and skill level as required by the shops </li><li>Support the development of student skills in construction tools, safety and fabrication that includes training, working together and managing the process of construction that also meets the requirements of the local jurisdiction permitting the project. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Please note MassArt:</p> <ul> <li>Does not support employment-based visa sponsorship or non-student exchange visitor visa sponsorship. </li><li>Is not an E-Verify institution. </li></ul> <p>Selected candidates must be eligible to work in the US at the time of employment, complete all onboarding tasks including a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background review and provide proof of eligibility to work in the US by completing the Form 19, Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.</p> <p>You are required to show proof of your identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of the start of your employment.
