<p>POSITION SUMMARY: The School Adjustment Counselor provides direct counseling services to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in both individual and group settings. They offer intervention support for at-risk students, assess their needs, and facilitate referrals to external agencies when necessary. This role includes mandated reporting responsibilities, safety planning for students returning from outside placements, and delivering educational programs on bullying, suicide prevention, and sexual harassment. Additionally, the counselor supports special populations-including students in non-traditional programs, pregnant/parenting teens, English learners, and students with IEPs or 504 plans-and facilitates group counseling on topics such as anger management and LGBTQ+ support. They collaborate with student support staff and vocational/academic personnel to address student social concerns and perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide counseling services to students whose IEP has a counseling component in either a group or individual setting. Provide counseling and intervention services to students identified by staff as demonstrating "at risk" behaviors; make an assessment and make referrals to an outside agency when necessary. File a 51A when mandated and assist other staff with the process when reported. Develop a safety plan for those students returning to school from an outside placement. Provide an educational program to all grade levels surrounding issues including bullying, suicide prevention, and sexual harassment as outlined in the Massachusetts Guidance Model. Provide support services to those students identified as special populations including students enrolled in non-traditional programs, pregnant and/or parenting teens, limited English, and students with an IEP or 504. Operate group counseling sessions for students surrounding issues including anger management, sexual orientation, gay/straight alliance, or other issues that are of concern to students and/or faculty. Work with special education and student support staff to support students across academic and vocational settings All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. SKILLS REQUIRED: A Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling from an accredited college or university. The candidate must satisfy the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Education as a School Adjustment Counselor. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.</p>
