<p>Apply</p> <p>Description</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY:</p> <p>Tutors provide and help to integrate effective learning and study strategies for their assigned</p> <p>students, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments and material.</p> <p>Tutoring provides academic support to students for developing their knowledge, skills, and confidence to</p> <p>become independent learners. Tutoring is a supplement to teaching, not a replacement for class attendance and</p> <p>participation. Tutors do not provide "answers" but rather assist in the learning process. Tutors are expected to</p> <p>be mature individuals who exert a positive influence on the members of the Lourdes community.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Promotes and integrates the Franciscan values of community, learning, reverence and service </li><li>Meets with students on a one-to-one or small-group basis to provide learning assistance </li><li>Maintains a weekly schedule of available hours in the Academic Success Center or student appointments </li><li>Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions using the TutorTrac software and/or relevant </li><li>forms </li><li>Completes and submits tutoring reports for each student on a daily basis </li><li>Checks emails daily for scheduled tutoring appointments </li><li>Logs in and out for each session using the TutorTrac system </li><li>Assures all tutees sign in and out for each tutoring session </li><li>Works with students only in area of expertise </li><li>Works only with current Lourdes University students on current course subject matter </li><li>Maintains confidentiality of student information </li><li>Ability to work with students of diverse ethnic backgrounds </li><li>Possesses interpersonal and organizational skills </li><li>Courteous and professional at all times with students, faculty and staff </li><li>Maintains communication with supervisory staff </li><li>Hours must not exceed 19 hours per week </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Attends and participates in mandatory tutor-training sessions as required by the Tutoring Coordinator </li><li>Arrives on time and conducts sessions in a professional manner </li><li>Fosters academic integrity </li><li>Models appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to staff, faculty and students </li><li>Develops in-class presentations and workshops as needed </li><li>Serves as a mentor for new tutors </li><li>Proven track record of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality </li><li>Takes on other duties as assigned by Academic Success Center staff </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Completion of a particular course with at least an "A-" (or a "B" if authorized by instructor) </li><li>Must have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 </li><li>Provide copy of transcript(s) from undergraduate and graduate institutions </li><li>Writing tutors must be proficient in APA, MLA and Chicago Style writing styles </li><li>An undergraduate or graduate degree in the field in which the individual is to tutor </li><li>Direct experience in tutoring or teaching is preferred </li><li>Letter of recommendation from an instructor or employer </li><li>Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds </li><li>Participates in mandatory training sessions </li></ul>
