<p>General Job Information</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>This position is located in the DC Office of Risk Management (DCORM). DCORM provides risk management direction, guidance, and support to District government agencies. This position is established to oversee the management of the Public Sector Workers' Compensation Program (PSWCP), which is a system of benefits provided by law for workers who have job-related injuries or illnesses; and will supervise a team of Claims Examiner to accomplish the mission of the section.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>This individual oversees and reviews work of a team of Workers' Compensation Claims Examiners including hiring, approving and disapproving request for leave of absences and overtime; conducting performance appraisal; regularly providing guidance and advice, attending to employee discipline and grievance; and, other related supervisory responsibilities. Actively oversees and allocates workloads and performance, and ensuring responsibilities were performed efficiently, professionally, and with a high degree of customer service. Provides continued support in the development, implementation, and management of DCORM's enterprise workers compensation software program. Manages and reviews open claim files for compliance with claims handling guidelines to include initial claim handling, investigation, medical management, and overall file management.</p> <p>The incumbent meets regularly to discuss unit's activities and administrative issues such as workers' compensation payroll, billing, and personnel matters with the goal of promoting best quality control and customer service practices. Makes recommendation for reduction in claims payments or a reduction from total to partial disability where applicable. Communicates claim activity and processing with the claimant and the client; maintains professional client relationships. Audits staff performance, creates and reviews reports while providing written analysis of findings.</p> <p>Qualifications and Education</p> <p>Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to grade 12 level in the District of Columbia government service, or equivalent public or private sector. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position including but are not limited to, planning, organizing, and conducting complex investigations; overseeing a team of claims examiner including providing job related guidance and advice, etc.</p> <p>Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Five (5) years of claims management experience including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred.</p> <p>Licenses and Certifications</p> <p>Related professional certification preferred.</p> <p>Working Conditions/Environment</p> <p>Work is performed in a sedentary environment.</p> <p>Other Significant Facts</p> <p>Tour of Duty: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday</p> <p>Promotion Potential: No Known Promotion Potential</p> <p>Pay Plan, Series and Grade: MS-0991-13</p> <p>Collective Bargaining Unit: Non Union</p> <p>Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Service (At Will)</p> <p>Position Designation: This position has been deemed Security Sensitive under the guidelines of the DC Personnel Manual. Incumbents of this position are subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC personnel regulations. Accordingly, incumbents must successfully pass a criminal background and consumer credit check as a condition of employment and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of their tenure.</p> <p>Essential Designation: This position has been designated as an essential employee position under the provisions of the District Personnel Manual, Chapter 12. As such, your services may be required in emergency situations to perform crucial duties, i.e., snow removal, debris removal, transportation, shelter operation, food distribution, and communications. These duties may be performed when the government is closed or when most employees are dismissed early.
