<p>Environmental Project Manager</p> <p>Location: Orange County, CA (Onsite)</p> <p>Role Overview</p> <p>A well-established environmental consulting firm in Orange County is seeking an experienced Environmental Project Manager to lead investigation and remediation projects while actively mentoring staff and maintaining high technical standards.</p> <p>This role is ideal for a hands-on PM who enjoys being deeply involved in the work, collaborating in an office-centric environment, and supporting the development of junior and mid-level team members. The Project Manager will play a key role in ensuring technical quality, supporting daily office operations, and helping the team successfully deliver complex environmental projects.</p> <p>This is a primarily in-office position (approximately 90% office / 10% field). Field time is focused on oversight, training, QA/QC, and staff support - not routine field labor.</p> <p>Why This Opportunity</p> <p>This position has remained open intentionally due to the high technical and leadership bar set for the role. The team is growing and needs a Project Manager who can balance strong "nuts-and-bolts" environmental expertise with mentorship, ownership, and day-to-day collaboration.</p> <p>If you're looking for:</p> <ul> <li>A role where technical depth truly matters </li><li>The ability to stay hands-on while managing projects </li><li>A tight-knit, mid-sized team that values in-person collaboration </li></ul> <p>This is a strong long-term opportunity.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Project & Technical Management</p> <ul> <li>Manage environmental investigation and remediation projects from scoping through completion </li><li>Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables </li><li>Review and approve technical reports and ensure consistent QA/QC standards </li><li>Interface with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders as needed </li><li>Conduct site visits (~10%) for oversight, training, and staff support </li></ul> <p>Leadership & Mentorship</p> <ul> <li>Provide daily technical guidance to junior and mid-level staff </li><li>Train team members on sampling methods, reporting, and investigation workflows </li><li>Maintain accessibility and visibility within the office to support team development </li><li>Lead by example with a hands-on, collaborative approach </li></ul> <p>Business Support (Preferred, Not Required)</p> <ul> <li>Assist with proposal writing and RFP responses </li><li>Support client relationships through strong project execution </li><li>Identify opportunities for project expansion through performance and communication </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>7-15 years of environmental consulting experience</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field</p> </li><li> <p>Strong technical foundation, including:</p> </li><li> <p>Environmental sampling</p> </li><li> <p>Groundwater and soil vapor investigations</p> </li><li> <p>Remediation oversight</p> </li><li> <p>Technical report writing</p> </li><li> <p>Project budgeting and financial tracking</p> </li><li> <p>Proven experience mentoring or training junior staff</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects</p> </li></ul> <p>Certifications & Tools</p> <ul> <li>40-hour HAZWOPER (required) </li><li>PG or PE license - strong plus (not required) </li><li>MSHA certification - preferred but optional </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel </li><li>Familiarity with CAD or GIS is helpful (internal support available) </li></ul> <p>Work Environment & Expectations</p> <ul> <li>Onsite, office-based role - 4-5 days per week required </li><li>No hybrid or remote option </li><li>Collaborative, team-oriented office culture </li><li>Field work is limited and focused on leadership, oversight, and training </li><li>Candidates must be realistic and comfortable with a daily Orange County commute </li></ul> <p>What Success Looks Like</p> <ul> <li>High-quality technical deliverables and well-run projects </li><li>Visible mentorship and support of staff in the office </li><li>Consistent presence and engagement with the team </li><li>Strong ownership of projects and follow-through </li><li>Ability to balance leadership with hands-on technical involvement </li></ul> <p>Compensation & Benefits</p> <ul> <li>$100,000 - $180,000 base salary, depending on experience and credentials </li><li>401(k) with company match and annual profit sharing </li><li>Medical, dental, and vision insurance (employer covers a significant portion of premiums) </li><li>Paid time off, paid holidays, and sick time </li><li>Company laptop, credit card, and mileage/toll support </li><li>Cell phone reimbursement and PPE allowance </li></ul> <p>Interview Process</p> <ul> <li>Initial recruiter screening (technical background, motivations, commute sustainability) </li><li>Virtual technical interview </li><li>Final in-person interview (required) to meet the team and experience the office environment </li></ul> <p>Important Note for Candidates</p> <p>This is a long-term, office-centric role for professionals who value collaboration, mentorship, and being present with their team.
