<p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in the installation, maintenance, calibration and trouble-shooting of electronic and non-high voltage electrical equipment; performs related work as required. The distinguishing feature between the Instrumentation Technician and Electrician classifications is that the latter also becomes involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment whereas the Instrumentation Technician class is limited to non-high voltage of electrical work (less than 440v.) in addition to electronic-related duties.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Installs, maintains, calibrates and trouble-shoots electronic and related instruments that measure and/or indicate speed control, pressure, weight, electrical current, time, motion, force or chemical reaction. </li><li>Installs, repairs and adjusts electric motors, switches, gauges and control panels. </li><li>Installs, calibrates, maintains, troubleshoots and services registers, flow meters, programmable logic controllers, electronic valve controllers, various alarm systems and components, distributed process control computer systems, modems, transducers, ac and dc variable speed drives, telemetry systems, equipment control systems and analytical instruments. </li><li>Makes miscellaneous repairs, including changing fuses, lamp bulbs, lighting fixtures, switches and outlets; installs and maintains electric, control, and signal cables and conduits. </li><li>Maintains plant telephone system; repairs or replaces sump pumps, dehumidifiers and heaters. </li><li>Lubricates and oils electric-powered equipment; maintains adequate inventory of replacement parts for all electrical and electronic instruments and equipment. </li><li>Reads and interprets sketches, wiring diagrams, specifications and codes. </li><li>May program minor alterations to a programmable logic controller or a distributed process control computer. </li><li>May make recommendations to supervisors for changes or improvements to systems. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Electronics and electrical repair and pertinent electrical codes </li><li>Programmable controllers and relay logic programming </li><li>Variable speed drives </li><li>Tools, materials and practices of the trade </li><li>Basic hydraulics, including pump principles </li><li>Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade </li><li>Basic AC and DC electrical theory </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li>Trouble-shooting and repairing defects in electronic and electrical equipment and system </li><li>Performing the necessary calculations relating to electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment </li><li>Reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints, electrical wiring diagrams, specifications, electrical codes and testing devices of the trade </li><li>Maintenance and installation records </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from high school or General Educational Development (GED) Tests equivalency </li><li>Two (2) years of technical training in electronics or closely related area or an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or closely related area </li><li>One (1) year of direct experience in repairing, calibrating and troubleshooting electronic instrumentation to include programmable logic controllers and process control devices </li><li>Must possess a valid Driver's License </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>None </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described within this job description must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
