Our Facilities and Industrial Systems teams support clients across food & beverage, consumer products, and advanced manufacturing markets by designing efficient, reliable packaging and material handling systems.</p> <p>The Role</p> <p>WSP is seeking a Senior Packaging & Material Handling Systems Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of packaging and material handling systems for industrial facilities. This role is ideal for an engineer who has a solid technical foundation and is ready to take ownership of project tasks while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.</p> <p>This role is open to candidates based in our Meridian, ID; Madison, WI; Plover, WI; or Minneapolis, MN offices.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Support the design and development of packaging and material handling systems, including evaluation of existing client configurations, equipment layouts, conveyor configurations, and operational efficiency design. </li><li>Leverage new technologies in automation and philosophies in manufacturing. </li><li>Develop and review physical building layout drawings, equipment and system drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, and bid and construction packages. </li><li>Assist with equipment specifications, RFPs, mass balances, and technical calculations. </li><li>Create, coordinate and review CAD deliverables, ensuring alignment with WSP and client standards. </li><li>Support vendor coordination and equipment selection activities. </li><li>Work closely with project managers and senior engineers to deliver work within budget and schedule. </li><li>Participate in design coordination meetings and contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration. </li><li>Assist with site visits for data collection, field verification, and construction support. </li><li>Communicate effectively with internal team members and, as appropriate, with clients. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Applied Science, Engineering or appropriate technical field, Engineering or a related technical field </li><li>3-5 years of relevant experience in material handling design, packaging systems, industrial facility design and automation. </li><li>Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients and project stakeholders. </li><li>Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D/3D); experience reviewing and visualizing designs in a 3D environment. </li><li>Ability to interpret and work with scan data and point cloud files. </li><li>Understanding of operations in hygienic packaging production (food, beverage, or consumer products) and industrial manufacturing operations. </li><li>Strong mechanical reasoning and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Ability to work effectively in team-based, consulting environments. </li><li>Willingness to travel approximately 10-25%. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering degree preferred (years of applicable experience to be considered) </li><li>Consulting experience in industrial or facilities engineering. </li><li>Experience with automation, industrial material handling, packaging equipment, conveying systems, automated guided vehicles or similar transport vehicles. </li><li>Exposure to vendor coordination and construction-phase support. </li><li>Familiarity with multidisciplinary project delivery in a consulting environment. </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills with developing client-facing experience. </li></ul> <p>WSP Benefits:</p> <p>WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee's career. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.</p> <p>#LI-JM1</p>
