<p>Job Duties</p> <ul> <li>Ability to assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy and appropriateness. </li><li>Involves patient/parent/and caregiver in care and exam/procedure. </li><li>Demonstrates age-related competency and cultural sensitivity. </li><li>Introduces self and role. </li><li>Explains procedure thoroughly to patient and or parent before performing the procedure. </li><li>Allows time for and encourages questions. </li><li>Provides support and effective communications to other members of the department and healthcare team. Works efficiently as a team member. </li><li>Consults with physicians, nursing and other technologists to provide quality imaging services. </li><li>Adheres to a culture of safety. </li><li>Washes hands and sanitizes equipment as directed. </li><li>Assure timeliness and accuracy when performing requested exams. </li><li>Performs ultrasound exams per protocol. </li><li>Follows through with notification of appropriate parties ofany variations and or changes of requested exam. </li><li>Utilizes safety behaviors to avoid image corrections </li><li>Properly documents into Hospital Information System </li><li>Covers at satellite locations as needed. </li><li>Notifies appropriate ordering provider of recommended changes to ordered exam. </li><li>Provides support to other modalities within the department as required </li><li>Performs diagnostic exams for all areas supported by the department of Radiology including, but not limited to the ED, OR, inpatient units and outpatient clinics. </li><li>Reviews work environment to ensure all supplies are not past expiration. </li><li>Educates and mentors sonography skills of new hires and students. Evaluates clinical and technical proficiency. </li><li>Successfully utilize information technology systems associated with role. </li><li>Uploads outside studies into Hospital Information System. Burns CD's when necessary of imaging studies. </li><li>Assures that images and documentation are complete and accurate in the patient medical record. </li><li>Adheres to all hospital and department policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols. </li><li>Coordinates equipment service as required. Places service requests for any equipment and communicates the request to others. </li><li>May be called upon to cover nights, evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays. Rotates shifts and scheduled on-call responsibilities. </li><li>Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with the organizational standards. </li><li>Demonstrates exemplary customer service. </li><li>Practices within their scope </li><li>Assists in requirements needed for approved trial/research studies. </li><li>Continuously maintains and promotes a safe environment. </li><li>Responds to on-call duties promptly according to guidelines </li><li>Performs other related duties as required. </li><li>Performs ultrasound procedures by positioning patients, using appropriate transducers and correct scanning sequences to produce an accurate image </li><li>Provides and ensures optimal technical quality and accuracy of all Ultrasound examinations according to the American College of Radiology (ACR) standards. </li><li>Transports sterile trays following procedures according to guidelines </li><li>Organizes images, measurements, calculations and other data in a logical sequence for presentation to the Radiologist for interpretation. </li><li>Consults as requested regarding the quality of images and data obtained with Radiologist and providers. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED</p> <ul> <li>Graduate of an Accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. </li></ul> <p>Position Specific Job Education and/or Experience</p> <ul> <li>One year Ultrasound experience preferred. </li><li>One year of pediatric experience preferred. </li><li>Certification in pediatric ultrasound preferred </li></ul> <p>LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED</p> <ul> <li>Credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within one year for recent graduates. </li><li>Basic Life Support (BLS) certification completed within 30 days of hire, and maintained thereafter </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE OF:</p> <ul> <li>Positive attitude with excellent interpersonal and communications skills. </li><li>Exemplary customer service skills. </li><li>Competency in caring for patients treated at Connecticut Children's regardless of age, disability, gender and ethnicity. </li></ul> <p>SKILLS:</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of Ultrasound technical scanning parameters and equipment operation. </li><li>Critical thinking skills for complex problem solving and requires the ability to review related information to develop and evaluate options and solutions for clinical decision making </li></ul> <p>ABILITY TO:</p> <ul> <li>Learn and relearn different technologies </li><li>Mentor co-workers and students </li><li>Provide excellent patient and family experience </li><li>Practice hospital safety behaviors </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>Activity</p> <p>Frequency Comments N O F C Bending/Stooping/Crouching/Kneeling O Climbing/Balancing O Hearing/Listening C Lifting - Light (less than 10 pounds) F Lifting - Medium (10 to 20 pounds) O Lifting - Heavy (20 to 50 pounds) O Lifting - Very Heavy (over 50 pounds) O Push/pull <50 lbs O Push/pull >50 lbs O Manual Dexterity F Reaching - Forward/Overhead O Reading F Repetitive Motion F Seeing/Vision F Sitting F Standing O Talking F Tasting or Smelling N Walking F Writing O</p> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <p>Activity Frequency Comments N O F C Indoor F Outdoor O High Temperatures/Humidity O Cold Temperatures O Loud Noise O Fumes O Heights N Confined Spaces O Bloodborn Pathogens/Bodily Fluids O</p>
