<p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Lead and manage end-to-end payroll operations for a multi-state workforce across weekly and bi-weekly pay cycles </li><li>Supervise, mentor, and develop a payroll team, driving accountability and performance </li><li>Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, including complex jurisdictions (e.g., California wage and hour regulations) </li><li>Oversee complex payroll elements, including bonuses, commissions, and equity compensation (RSUs and stock options) </li><li>Manage payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and regulatory compliance across all jurisdictions </li><li>Partner with HR, Finance, and Legal to ensure accurate compensation structures, benefits deductions, and reporting </li><li>Support and lead internal and external audits; contribute to SOX compliance and internal control frameworks (preferred) </li><li>Oversee year-end payroll processes, including W-2s, 1099s, and related filings </li><li>Evaluate and improve payroll systems, processes, and controls to enhance efficiency and scalability </li><li>Ensure proper handling of multi-state taxation, including unemployment insurance, reciprocity, and local tax requirements </li><li>Resolve complex payroll issues and employee inquiries with a high level of service </li><li>Maintain and document payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls </li><li>Manage relationships with payroll vendors and system providers </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field (or equivalent experience) </li><li>5+ years of payroll experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role </li><li>Proven experience managing multi-state payroll across a large, distributed workforce </li><li>Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and compliance requirements </li><li>Experience with equity compensation, including RSUs and stock options, and related tax implications </li><li>Experience operating in a complex, high-growth environment </li><li>Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., UKG) </li><li>Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills </li><li>High level of accuracy and attention to detail </li><li>Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills </li><li>Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in healthcare, particularly DME or similarly regulated environments </li><li>Experience supporting SOX compliance and audit-intensive environments </li><li>Deep knowledge of complex state payroll laws, especially California </li><li>CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification </li><li>Experience scaling payroll operations in a multi-state, high-growth organization </li></ul> <p>Key Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Leadership and team development </li><li>Compliance and risk management </li><li>Process improvement and systems optimization </li><li>Critical thinking and problem-solving </li><li>Detail orientation and operational excellence </li></ul> <p>You will be expected to work during normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Please note this job description is not designed to cover and/or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
