We value continuous growth and professional development while encouraging self-care practices to foster a positive workplace culture.</p> <p>Our Mission</p> <p>The mission of the Financial Wellness Center is to support student well-being and success by providing individualized financial counseling, education, programming, research, and advocacy to guide students in their lifelong financial wellness journeys.</p> <p>About the Position</p> <p>The Financial Wellness Center (FWC) is seeking a compassionate, student-centered Graduate Assistant to join our nationally recognized and dynamic team. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to directly support student success and well-being through personalized financial counseling and innovative educational programming across the University of Utah campus.</p> <p>As a Financial Counseling Graduate Assistant, you will serve as a trusted resource for students navigating a wide range of financial situations. Responsibilities include providing one-on-one financial counseling, facilitating workshops and presentations, and contributing to the development of timely and relevant financial education initiatives. The FWC has a mission of growth opportunities and Graduate Students will be invited to apply for a scholarship to have their Accredited Financial Counseling education and testing paid for by the department.</p> <p>The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in financial education and wellness and student development, and a commitment to fostering belonging and accessibility in every interaction.</p> <p>Compensation & Time Commitment</p> <p>We are flexible in structuring this role based on candidate availability:</p> <ul> <li>20 hours/week: $24,000 salary for Fall & Spring semesters </li><li>10 hours/week: $12,000 salary for Fall & Spring semesters </li></ul> <p>Please indicate your preferred weekly hours when applying.</p> <p>Multiple Hires</p> <ul> <li>Multiple openings may be available based on candidate availability and scheduling needs. </li></ul> <p>About Student Affairs</p> <p>Student Affairs is comprised of more than 20 departments and is focused on supporting student well-being and success with the ultimate goal of assisting students in discovering their passion, people, and purpose. In order to best support our students, it is important that staff stay aware of issues and best practices related to student development, identity, and sense of belonging, both locally and nationally.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>High-Level Financial Counseling and Education</p> <ul> <li>Provide expert, one-on-one financial counseling to students, offering guidance on budgeting, credit, student loans, and overall financial wellness. </li><li>Support students experiencing financial stress or complex financial challenges, with a student-centered and compassionate approach. </li><li>Promote financial education on campus through presentations, programming, and collaboration with campus partners to expand the reach and impact of financial wellness initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Meetings and Professional Development</p> <ul> <li>Attend staff meetings, program planning sessions, and one-on-one meetings with your supervisor to discuss progress, share ideas, and receive feedback. </li><li>Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on financial wellness trends, student support strategies, and higher education best practices. </li><li>Seek out additional learning and growth opportunities, particularly those available through the University of Utah and local community events. </li></ul> <p>Additional Expectations</p> <ul> <li>Maintain strong communication with the FWC team, collaborating effectively on projects and initiatives. </li><li>Act as a mentor to other student workers in the office, including interns and peer well-being ambassadors. </li><li>Assist with general office administration and help maintain an organized and welcoming environment for students. </li></ul> <p>Other duties, functions, and responsibilities as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Current University of Utah graduate student who is supported on the Tuition Benefit Program.</p> <p>Department-Specific Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Must be a current University of Utah graduate student in good standing. </li><li>Applicant must possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively through written and verbal means, be outgoing, self-motivated, detail-oriented, creative, and organized </li><li>Ability to comfortably work with others and maintain confidentiality </li><li>Knowledge base of personal financial issues, topics, and concepts </li></ul> <p>Preferences</p> <p>Graduate student at the University of Utah, preferably in the School of Business, Humanities, or Social and Behavioral Sciences.</p> <p>Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
