<p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>PART I: SUMMARY OF POSITION</p> <p>The job of Electrician primarily maintains, repairs, and installs electrical systems, services, and equipment for the District. In addition, he or she provides input when needed on electrical projects. The priority of the Electrician is to provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in District facilities.</p> <p>PART II: MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <p>A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or Equivalent </li><li>Five (5) years of experience as a certified electrician </li></ul> <p>B. CREDENTIALS:</p> <ul> <li>Certification as an electrician by an accredited program </li><li>Possess a current Illinois Motor Vehicle Class D Operator license </li><li>Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds </li><li>Certificate of good health by a licensed physician </li><li>Current in all aspects of electrical work </li></ul> <p>C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Skilled in the use of power and specialty tools for measuring, controlling, and diagnosing building power, security, fire alarm, technology, and audio/video systems </li><li>Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, written reference materials, specifications, and proposals </li><li>Knowledge of electrical wiring schemes </li><li>Ability to diagnose and resolve problems in various electrical fields, to include fire alarm, voice/data cabling, security cabling, low voltage and line voltage controls (120/208 volt, 277/480 volt building) </li><li>Ability to solve mathematical equations applicable to electrical systems </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others </li><li>Knowledge of electrical codes and standards </li><li>Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and depths. Most tasks require visual perception and differentiation. </li><li>Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions; such as wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, electrical currents, bright or dim lighting, etc. </li></ul> <p>PART III: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <p>The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <ul> <li>Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical wiring, fixtures, power equipment, and system components in accordance with electrical codes, manuals, schematics, specifications, and blueprints. </li><li>Installs, repairs, and services control and distribution apparatus (motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit breaker panels, etc.) and connects power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for new and existing facilities. </li><li>Diagnoses, tests, and resolves electrical system issues using appropriate testing instruments, including continuity testing, troubleshooting circuits, and verifying safety and compatibility. </li><li>Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using appropriate tools and equipment. </li><li>Estimates time, labor, materials, equipment, and service costs for electrical and data-cabling projects, and selects materials while managing inventory. </li><li>Plans, coordinates, and executes electrical and cabling projects, including collaboration with ComEd, J.U.L.I.E., the Director of Operations, and the Director of Technology. </li><li>Utilizes the maintenance work order system to prioritize, schedule, document, and follow up on assigned work orders, ensuring timely completion. </li><li>Conducts routine inspections of buildings and equipment, identifying needed repairs and completing or reporting deficiencies as required. </li><li>Performs electrical and general preventative maintenance and recommends or advises on major electrical needs or necessary repairs. </li><li>Responds to emergency electrical or building issues as needed, ensuring rapid and safe resolution. </li><li>Installs, terminates, tests, troubleshoots, and labels communications cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and other low-voltage wiring disciplines. </li><li>Mounts and installs technology and AV equipment, including access points, projector mounts, projectors, interactive boards, digital displays, and related hardware. </li><li>Demonstrates familiarity with HDMI, VGA, USB, fiber, and related cabling technologies, ensuring proper installation and compatibility. </li><li>Creates diagrams of cable runs and maintains accurate documentation, assisting with budgeting, purchasing materials, and maintaining records. </li><li>Promotes and follows all safety procedures and safe working practices, including lifting, climbing, lockout/tagout, correcting unsafe conditions, and maintaining facilities to high standards. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>PART IV: SUPERVISION</p> <p>Not applicable</p> <p>THE ABOVE STATEMENTS ARE INTENDED TO DESCRIBE THE GENERAL NATURE AND LEVEL OF WORK BEING PERFORMED BY THE EMPLOYEE ASSIGNED TO THIS POSITION.
