Under the supervision of the Division Chief, Director of APPs and Nursing and Collaborating Physician, the APP will work in the Neurophysiology Division of the Neurology Department, performing clinic visits (in person and televisits and working closely with other departments and divisions leading clinical continuity. The NP will take a leading role in managing patients referred to the Neurophysiology team for assessment, care and treatment. The APP will help plan, refine, and extend care activities beyond the walls of the clinic to integrate care and improve patients' experience more fully.</p> <p>The position requires superb organizational skills, interpersonal skills, initiative and innovation. Must be flexible, independent, and willing to participate in multiple activities while providing support to patients by collaborating with the team. Effective communication skills and the ability to converse comfortably with patients and their caregivers are necessary.</p> <p>Neurophysiology APP Role: 5-8hr shifts M-F</p> <ul> <li>Provides clinical care: 6 four-hour clinical sessions per week (24 patient facing hours) and has 2 four hour research sessions (8 hours of clinical research time) and 2 four hour continuity of care/administrative time (8 hours per week) to complete non patient facing work such as EPIC in-basket messages, notes, lab work etc. </li><li>May require time rounding inpatient on patients in the epilepsy monitoring unit to provide continuity of care </li><li>Collaborates with outside facilities and clinical staff for certain patients, and also to provide general information about caring for patients to other caregivers including outside hospitals, PCP's, VNA, and private help. </li><li>Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team </li><li>Explore innovative ways to disseminate patient and community education materials to enhance continuity of care. </li><li>Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of treatment. </li><li>Maintains accurate and timely notes in the electronic medical record. </li><li>Information Systems/Technology Skills: EPIC, electronic medical record experience. </li><li>Quality Assurance: Skills to work efficiently and effectively and strive to do so in all aspects of position. </li><li>Critical Thinking/Decision Making: Ability to appropriately evaluate all aspects of a situation and to independently make appropriate and timely decisions. </li><li>Ability to coordinate among diverse populations. </li><li>Discretion and Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters discreetly and to ensure confidentiality guidelines are maintained by staff. </li><li>Safety/Compliance: Knowledge in aspects of safety applicable to position; Knowledge of and compliance with institutional, JCAHO, HIPAA, and other regulatory bodies' standards. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Ideal candidates will have:</p> <ul> <li>Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Licensure </li><li>Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Certification </li><li>Master's or Doctoral Degree in given APP discipline </li><li>The desire to utilize a patient-centered approach to produce the highest quality of care </li><li>Interpersonal/communication: Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, and public speaking skills; Good command of English language, including medical and scientific terminology. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>Busy ambulatory practice setting. </li><li>Normal office conditions </li><li>Potential clinical exposure within the routine provision of patient care </li><li>Periods of walking, standing and sitting.
