<p>JOB TITLE - Substitute Nurse</p> <p>PURPOSE OF THE POSITION - We are seeking qualified individuals who are eager and available to serve as a substitute nurse. School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential (adopted by the NASN Board of Directors February 2017).</p> <p>Please review the UCSD Actions of Excellence to gain an understanding of the expectations for UCSD employees.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS -</p> <p>(Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education, Certification/Licensure, Experience, Equipment)</p> <p>Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of security and emergency procedures. </li><li>Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to relate effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community. </li><li>Knowledge of district operations. </li><li>Ability to organize varied tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner. </li><li>Ability to handle diversity in an objective manner. </li><li>Ability to interpret federal, state and local codes and maintain compliance. </li><li>Ability to use computer software. </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>RN or BSN. </li></ul> <p>Certification/Licensure</p> <ul> <li>RN licensed in the State of Iowa. </li></ul> <p>Experience</p> <ul> <li>School and/or community experience preferred. </li></ul> <p>Equipment</p> <ul> <li>Office equipment such as computers, two-way radios, multi-line phone system, cell phone, copier, and fax machines. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -</p> <p>The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Supervise health duties delegated to health associates, para-professionals, associates and secretaries. </li><li>Provide standard of care, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation for student health conditions. </li><li>Uphold the standards of professional nursing performance, including quality of care, performance appraisal, education, collegiality, ethics, collaboration, research, resource utilization, communication, program management and health education. </li><li>Provide essential and emergency nursing service to the district's students. </li><li>Maintains a reliable attendance record. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISION OF OTHERS -</p> <ul> <li>None </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -</p> <ul> <li>Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement. </li><li>Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking. </li><li>Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working. </li><li>Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids. </li><li>Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS -</p> <ul> <li>Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting. </li><li>Occasional meetings outside the school day. </li><li>Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations. </li></ul> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT -</p> <ul> <li>At-Will Employee </li><li>Per Board Policies and administrative guidelines. </li></ul> <p>Substitute nurses in the Urbandale Community School District earn $165/day or $82.50/half day.
