Work requires independent thinking and leadership ability to direct the Therapist Team workload in a safe manner while ensuring efficiency in the daily operations. Participates in special projects as requested and identifies areas of improvement for the team and unit.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Principal Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Provide patient education in order to maximize patient compliance with his/her plan of care and provide family education when needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Is responsible for efficient operation of the assigned clinical treatment area.</p> </li><li> <p>Is a resource to Therapist Staff to resolve clinical issues; division and/or patient related.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates the activities of the Therapist to ensure quality treatment delivery and maximum utilization of equipment and personnel.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilizes and instructs new staff members in quality assurance and improvement policies and practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Works with the Therapist Manager and Chief of Physics to develop new techniques or resolve clinical problems.</p> </li><li> <p>Works with Physician and Therapist Staff to triage emergent cases and negotiate scheduling of patients to appropriate treatment units.</p> </li><li> <p>Manages team during equipment failures and facilitates machine down procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Possesses knowledge of all scheduling, treatment and billing procedures involving the Record and Verify System; is able to troubleshoot and consult with the appropriate personnel to resolve discrepancies.</p> </li><li> <p>Accurately documents treatment delivery information and records treatment variances using the appropriate incident reporting tool.</p> </li><li> <p>Assesses patient relative data pertinent to age-specific needs and provides care as described in the department policy and procedure manual.</p> </li><li> <p>Instructs and orients new Radiation Therapists, students and other staff members unfamiliar with department and/or specific procedures. Completes appropriate documentation in a timely manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Models appropriate behavior and good clinical judgement.</p> </li><li> <p>May elect to teach in the School of Radiation Therapy.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in specialty areas such as Clinical Instruction of Radiation Therapy Technology Students, Intra-operative Radiation Therapy and Stereotactic Radiation surgery.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in Departmental and Therapist Staff Meetings and demonstrates ability to lead and support meetings when called upon by the Therapist Manager.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates cooperation and is responsive to all staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains and can provide annual documentation of the required amount od Continuing Education Credits needed for licensure.</p> </li><li> <p>Is an active member of professional organizations, participates in professional activities by attending meetings, serving on committees or tasks forces, writing and/or presenting scientific papers.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in the clinical instruction and evaluation of the Radiation Therapy Technology students.</p> </li><li> <p>Assumes managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Therapist Manager.</p> </li></ol> <p>Organizational Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li> <p>Follows hospital and department policies with special attention to safety, dress, attendance and punctuality, and display of ID badge. Subscribes to hospital's mission statement, code of ethics, and standards of conduct.</p> </li><li> <p>Handles all work-related information in a confidential manner, as outlined in Confidentiality Policy. Recognizes and respects each patient's right to privacy, and understands that this is protected by statute. Understands that looking up patient information not needed for job duties is prohibited and may be grounds for immediate dismissal.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates initiative and creativity to continuously improve services, departmental and interdepartmental processes, and any other activities that affect quality.</p> </li><li> <p>Plans, organizes, and renders care for (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric) patients within an assigned area.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs work responsibilities while staying in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Understands and agrees to uphold the Hospital Compliance Plan.</p> </li><li> <p>Adheres to Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control plan including consistent use of safety devices as designed to prevent sharp injuries.</p> </li></ol> <p>Patient Safety</p> <ol> <li> <p>When taking a telephone order, writes the order on the Doctor's Orders, reads the order back to the MD and document as a TORB.</p> </li><li> <p>When taking a verbal order, repeats the order back to the MD prior to implementing the order and documents as a VORB.</p> </li><li> <p>Uses only accepted abbreviations when documenting in the medical record.</p> </li><li> <p>Uses two unique patient identifiers prior to treatment or patient transport.</p> </li><li> <p>Adheres to Safe Injection Practices i.e. never reuses needles, cannulae and syringes.</p> </li><li> <p>Complies with Isolation Precautions including standard precautions; i.e, dons and removes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by specific patient precautions.</p> </li><li> <p>Consistently complies with the hospital's Hand Hygiene Policy, i.e. cleans hands before every patient contact (even if gloves are worn), before donning sterile gloves for aseptic task, after handling body fluids, after every patient contact, and after contact with patient's environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in EHS's TB program.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in hospital's annual seasonal vaccine program (vaccination or declination completed).</p> </li></ol> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Must be a graduate of a CAHEA accredited educational program or equivalent.</p> </li><li> <p>Must hold active certification by the ARRT and have a valid Massachusetts license in Radiation Therapy.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervisory/Management Responsibility: Supervises Staff Radiation Therapists, Radiation Therapist Clinical Assistant(s) and students assigned to the area.</p> </li><li> <p>2-4 years related work experience required.</p> </li><li> <p>Associate's degree required.
