<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>The department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at MUSC has an opening for a motivated and collegial Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Han. This position will be part-time with an average of 15 hours per week. The Han lab focuses on the pancreatic cancer, which is a major and deadly cancer type. Pancreatic cancer is driven by DNA mutations in the epithelial tumor cells and is also characterized by a dense stroma primarily composed of cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs). The goal of the Han lab is to better understand CAFs and their interactions with tumor cells and other components in the tumor microenvironment. Specifically, the Han lab aims to investigate tissue origin(s), heterogeneity, and function of pancreatic CAFs. Precise characterization and fine-tuning of the tumor microenvironment hold tremendous potential for better diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of pancreatic cancer.</p> <p>Job Purpose:</p> <p>To manage mouse colonies and perform procedures on mouse, conduct laboratory analytical procedures, operate laboratory equipment, and maintain laboratory supplies in Biochemical, Molecular, and Cellular Biology.</p> <p>MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:</p> <p>A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting; a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may be substituted for the two years of required experience.</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Performs mouse handling functions (30%) </li><li>Performs mouse genotyping and maintain mouse colonies </li><li>Assist in in vivo experiments, such as orthotopic models of cancer. </li><li>Performs mammalian tissue culture (30%) </li><li>Grows, maintains, expands, and treats mammalian cell lines </li><li>Develops, evaluates and implements new or modified culture procedures </li><li>Prepares laboratory records and maintain laboratory supplies (20%). </li><li>Orders and places laboratory supplies </li><li>Prepares laboratory records (15%). </li><li>Prepares daily records of experimental procedures and results </li><li>Upon request, performs other tasks requested by faculty to maintain a smooth operation of laboratory (5%). </li><li>Performs collaborations with inside and outside colleagues </li></ul> <p>Additional Job Description</p> <p>Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting; a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may be substituted for the two years of required experience.
