Discover your opportunities at Yale!</p> <p>Overview:</p> <p>Reporting to the Director of Research Enterprise Operations this position leads and manages a small team of professionals responsible for developing, delivering, and supporting a growing array of business intelligence solutions serving the Research Enterprise at Yale. The Associate Director for Business Intelligence will play a leadership role in supporting the emerging need to integrate complex sets of data from the growing suite of research administration applications, and in the development of new analytical and reporting tools to support the growing demand for metric-based decision making at Yale. The position works closely with unit management within ORA and across the university to promote sound data governance practices to ensure that high quality, timely data is available for analysis. This position will operate in a complex matrix fashion, interacting with a variety of stakeholders, including faculty, senior administrators, unit leaders, business office staff, Yale ITS, and solution vendors. The role must range from high-level identification of functional data analysis needs to working at a detail level on highly technical topics.</p> <p>Required Skills and Abilities:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.</p> </li><li> <p>Expert use of data analysis tools including Excel, PowerBI, Workday, and Access. Familiarity with eRA systems and Yale's financial and administrative systems is a significant plus.</p> </li><li> <p>Programming experience in VBA and SQL is preferred to support advanced data analysis projects. Demonstrated experience with proficiency utilizing PowerBI or equivalent is required. Demonstrated expertise in data analysis. Proficiency with data models and business architecture concepts. Working knowledge of report development and business intelligence (BI) tools. Clear understanding of data migration strategies. Ability to translate functional reporting needs into technical specifications, ensuring that business requirements are met through creative and sophisticated technical solutions.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to direct cross-functional project teams to deliver enterprise solutions). Manage diverse stakeholders from executive leadership to technical developers without formal line authority, including acting as a strategic advisor to ORA unit directors, influencing a shift toward a metric-driven approach to Federal grant management and research administration data standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent oral and written communication skills with well-developed interpersonal abilities; able to communicate technical data to non-technical functional users with proven experience managing project teams and influencing senior management in a complex organizational structure.</p> </li></ol> <p>Preferred Skill/Education/Experience</p> <ol> <li> <p>Experience with research administration business processes and systems. 2.Knowledge of InfoEd/Huron and/or Workday software is highly desired. 3.Experience with regulatory concepts in research administration including Conflict of Interest, IRB, IACUC, and grant requirements is highly desirable.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to lead the future identification and implementation of AI and 5.Machine Learning (ML) initiatives to automate research administration workflows and provide predictive insights into faculty grant success and F&A projections is preferred.</p> </li></ol> <p>Principal Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li>Play a leadership role in research enterprise data stewardship, ensuring that our applications, databases, and reporting tools/environments align with the functional needs of the business. Lead the development and continual management of a data architecture view of the Research Enterprise. 2. Oversee the ongoing development and operations of enterprise data warehouse architecture, data modeling and ETL. • Oversee development of self-service analytics, reporting and dashboard solutions. 3. Partner with ORA pre-award, post-award, and compliance units, as well as distributed business offices that support research to ensure disciplined, consistent use of systems so that critical data is collected in an accurate, timely manner. 4. Partner with ORA pre-award, post-award, and compliance units, as well as distributed business offices that support research to ensure that business intelligence solutions are designed, implemented and supported so that they enhance management's ability to manage by metrics. 5. Oversee and manage a large, ever evolving inventory of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports to support Yale faculty and staff in their wok to manage the end-to-end award lifecycle including related compliance activities. This includes key reporting needed to demonstrate Yale's compliance with federal and other sponsor requirements. 6. Supporting senior leadership across the university, oversee and manage the process for developing and delivering ad hoc analysis and reporting using research enterprise data. Advise and interact with senior administrators from the President, Provost, and YSM Dean's offices to ensure accurate and timely delivery of this service. 7. Perform complex business process and workflow analysis, oftentimes involving processes conducted across multiple functional units. Recommend and assist in the implementation of improvements, such as system to system integrations, that will result in greater efficiency and higher quality data. 8. Ensure that business intelligence solutions adopted by Yale minimize compliance risk related to sponsored research activities. 9. Develop a strategic roadmap that aligns business intelligence goals/objectives with ORA system implementations/enhancements. 10. Develop and maintain effective relationships with other Institutions to identify leading practices in research administration-related business intelligence capabilities. 11. Cultivate key strategic partnership with IT solution architects/BI leaders to establish ORA business vision. This partnership is essential and can lead to proof of concept opportunities; evaluation/early adoption of new tools sets and technologies that benefit both central units and their constituents. 12. Develop and foster a strong working relationship with various Yale ITS units to ensure that Yale's approach to integrated business intelligence solutions meets the needs of the research enterprise. 13. Participate in vendor activities such as steering committees and national conferences to ensure and Yale voice is considered in vendor decision making. Present at annual conferences to position Yale as a leader among vendor clients. 14. Define and track service metrics and work with staff to meet client needs and service standards. Implement appropriate controls and quality assurance; ensure adherence to the process, consistent and efficient trouble resolution, error reduction, and continuous process improvement. 15. Foster a culture of customer service, professionalism and proficiency.
