<p>Are you skilled in general maintenance and construction? Join Chatham County Government's Public Works Department as a Maintenance Worker I, where you'll tackle various manual tasks, including grading ditches, laying asphalt, and assisting with building projects, all while ensuring the upkeep of essential infrastructure.</p> <p>Under close supervision, you </p> <ul> <li>Perform various manual, unskilled duties of routine difficulty.  </li><li>Perform general maintenance and construction, grading ditches, clearing land, digging drainage ditches, and assisting with building manholes and headwalls.  </li><li>Lay asphalt, lay drainage pipes, and break up asphalt.  </li><li>Load and unload trucks, clear ditches, and pick up dry trash.  </li><li>Must be able to work nights and weekends in emergencies.  </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li><li>Completion of eighth grade education or equivalent; and </li><li>Any equivalent combination of experience and training. </li><li>Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.  </li><li>Must be able to follow instructions and perform sustained physical labor, including heavy lifting and use of hand tools.  </li><li>Must provide and wear approved steel toe protective footwear during regular working hours.  </li><li>Must be able to obtain a GA Safety Council Flagger's license within one (1) year of employment. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED. </li></ul>
