This role enforces laws and regulations, investigates complaints and incidents, maintains order, identifies criminal activity, and apprehends and arrests offenders to ensure safety and security on all institutional properties and serve as a visible presence to prevent and deter criminal activity. This is a sworn law enforcement position under the general direction of a ranking officer or supervisor.</p> <p>Key Job Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Provides protection of life, property, and the preservation of peace and good order and provides emergency aid to the institutional community </li><li>Performs preliminary and follow-up investigations to solve crimes, identify suspects and victims, apprehend criminals, and document case information </li><li>Ensures the safe and orderly flow of traffic on institutional roadways and enforces traffic laws </li><li>Provides personal safety and crime prevention education to institutional community </li><li>Engages in problem solving, threat mitigation, and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens, groups, campus entities, government agencies, businesses, leaders, and others </li></ul> <p>Department:</p> <p>UW-Green Bay Police Department</p> <p>Compensation:</p> <p>Compensation range of $28.00 - $35.00.</p> <p>This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.</p> <p>This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Possess of or be eligible to obtain a valid Wisconsin driver's license upon appointment </li><li>Successful completion of a Wisconsin Department of Justice approved "Law Enforcement Recruit" training course or already certified by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) as a Law Enforcement Officer </li><li>No record of an unpardoned adult felony conviction and no convictions for domestic violence </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in related field </li><li>Prior law enforcement experience </li><li>Experience working in Higher Education </li></ul> <p>Physical Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to maintain the strength, stamina, dexterity and overall physical fitness required for the performance of duties </li><li>Ability to be on foot for ten or more hours </li><li>Possess the ability to take defensive measures in the event of a physical assault </li></ul> <p>Other Qualification:</p> <ul> <li>Considerable knowledge of Constitution of the United States of America, Wisconsin State Statutes, Wisconsin Administrative codes, University and department rules, policies and procedures </li><li>Considerable knowledge of investigative methods and techniques, proper preparation of all reports and forms </li><li>Ability to observe and recall facts and details about persons, events, accident scenes, physical conditions and human behaviors </li><li>Knowledge and skill in defense and arrest tactics, emergency vehicle operation, use of force, crowd control techniques and assigned equipment techniques </li><li>Ability to communicate with clear and concise speech at all times, including in extremely stressful and non-stressful situations </li><li>Above Average abilities in multitasking; including the ability to perform a physical task while appropriately processing verbal or written information </li><li>Excellent judgment including sensitivity to personal and confidential information </li><li>Knowledge of crime prevention techniques, enforcement procedures, and problem solving techniques </li><li>Knowledge and skill in first aid and CPR </li><li>Proficiency in word processing, database applications, and Internet </li><li>Ability to communicate with a diverse community of individuals </li><li>Ability to read and understand complex printed materials </li></ul> <p>Conditions of Appointment:</p> <p>A criminal conviction investigation, medical exam, psychological exam, vision screening, physical agility assessment and pre-employment drug screening will be conducted on the finalist(s). In addition, if the final selected candidate has prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct will be completed. A twelve-month probationary period is required for this position.
