Do you like figs?</p> <p>The Van Goor Lab in the Division of Biological Sciences is seeking a Research Specialist I to support applied biological research focused on plant health and fungal systems. This role is ideal for someone who wants a strong entry point into the field of research.</p> <p>In this position, you will:</p> <ul> <li>Gain hands-on experience with laboratory and greenhouse research </li><li>Learn and apply foundational research techniques used in biological sciences </li><li>Work closely with faculty and students in a supportive, team-based lab </li><li>Build skills that prepare you for future research, graduate study, or lab-based careers </li></ul> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Support applied research activities by preparing biological samples, assisting with sequencing and </li></ul> <p>microscopy, and collecting research data using established methods</p> <ul> <li>Maintain greenhouse and plant health operations, including monitoring environmental conditions </li></ul> <p>and identifying routine pest or fungal issues using approved practices</p> <ul> <li>Support laboratory operations by ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and keeping lab </li></ul> <p>spaces organized, safe, and ready for research</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with students and research team members, providing routine guidance on lab and </li></ul> <p>greenhouse procedures and contributing to a positive learning environment</p> <ul> <li>Assist with research coordination and communication, including preparing materials for </li></ul> <p>presentations or conferences under faculty direction</p> <p>Shift</p> <p>Flexible but generally 40 hours per week within Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience in a greenhouse, wet lab, or plant care is preferred </li><li>Experience in a lab, field research, or biological science setting would be helpful </li><li>Exposure to research techniques such as PCR or sequencing preparation </li><li>Comfort learning new procedures and following established protocols </li></ul> <p>Anticipated Hiring Range</p> <p>Salary Range: $18 - $20/hour</p> <p>Grade: GGS - 007</p> <p>University Title: Research Specialist I</p> <p>Internal applicants can determine their university title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.</p> <p>Sponsorship Information</p> <p>Visa Sponsorship Information:</p> <p>Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
