We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.</p> <p>What we need YOU to do:</p> <p>The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to join our team as an environmental specialist with the Division of Drinking and Ground Waters (DDAGW) at our Northeast District Office in Summit County.</p> <p>Want a hand in protecting public drinking water? Let's talk!</p> <p>As an environmental specialist, you'll conduct field inspections of public water systems (PWS), including water treatment plants and distribution facilities, to ensure compliance with state and federal drinking water regulations.</p> <p>You'll monitor PWS activities by reviewing operational reports and water analyses and maintain records on water source data, facility operations, water quality, and owner/operator information. As needed, you'll conduct sampling and perform investigations of public water systems, including proposed well sites and reports of complaints, operational problems, and emergencies.</p> <p>You'll review drinking water regulations, ensure their enforcement, and provide input on policies and procedures used in implementing the public drinking water program.</p> <p>As a subject matter expert, you'll provide technical assistance and guidance to public officials, owners and operators of public water systems, industry representatives, and the public in matters relating to drinking water. As needed, you'll assist in preparing enforcement legal actions and providing testimony at hearings and court cases.</p> <p>Let's tap into the basic tasks.</p> <ul> <li>Evaluate and inspect public water systems (PWS) to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. </li><li>Collect water samples and review documentation/monitoring data. </li><li>Investigate PWS in response to complaints, operational problems, and emergencies. </li><li>Provide subject matter guidance and outreach to PWS owners/operators, officials, and the public. </li><li>Assist in enforcement of public drinking water regulations. </li></ul> <p>'Water' you waiting for? Apply today!</p> <p>4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving geology or hydrology, engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science &/or other comparable physical or health science field, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Or baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science field. </li><li>Or positions involved in providing financial, technical & administrative assistance for planning, design & implementation of environmental infrastructure & pollution abatement, & prevention projects, applicants must have completed undergraduate core coursework in business/public administration, public relations/marketing, political science or communications, or have 4 yrs. exp. in position involving public contact to explain policies, procedures & programs of agency, writing of promotional &/or explanatory publications & materials, budgeting, contract administration & working with others on team projects. Note: For all positions engaged in field work, applicants must be able to provide own transportation. New employees in EPA's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period. </li><li>Or 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861. </li><li>Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. </li></ul> <p>Job Skills: Environmental Services, Regulatory Compliance Professional Skills: Customer Focus, Attention to Detail, and Critical Thinker.</p>
