We do meaningful work that contributes to improving the lives of others. We are currently looking for an experienced Calibration / Metrology Technician for our Fridley, Minnesota location. Working within the Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure unit, this role will provide Physical/Dimensional calibration and repair of test and measurement equipment in research, development, and manufacturing environments.</p> <p>As a calibration/Metrology Technician II, you will perform job functions under limited supervision in the laboratory, production area, clean room, and test environments. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Calibrates electronic test measuring equipment and signal generating equipment to conform to set standards. </li><li>Tests, calibrates, adjusts, and maintains electromechanical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, hydro mechanical, and pressure-type measuring and indicating instruments. </li><li>Sets up calibration sequences, methods and procedures according to detailed specifications, blueprints, drawings, and requirements. </li><li>Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and replaces defective parts of test equipment such as pressure gauges and tension meters. </li><li>May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. </li><li>Perform calibrations and measurements traceable to NIST and the International System of Units (SI) using appropriately maintained reference standards. Test, inspection, and measurement equipment range from general-purpose physical and dimensional equipment to custom built sterilizer systems. Disciplines comprise: Mass, Temperature, Humidity, Vacuum, Length, Optics, Conductivity, Pressure, Dimensional Metrology, Force, Torque, Flow, plus more. </li><li>Create and modify calibration procedures by determining metrology requirements from manufacturer's manuals, laboratory methods, system requirements, or other approved documentation. </li><li>Interact with equipment owning engineers and technicians to schedule calibration activities, provide guidance related to selection of test and measurement equipment, and lead others in following appropriate documented procedures in place for the Metrology department. </li><li>Place a strong focus on attention to detail while properly documenting calibration results into the calibration tracking database using validated templates or test point grids. As appropriate, issue Out of Tolerance (OOT) or Non-conformance (NC) reports. </li><li>Work with data acquisition and validation equipment, (e.g. process control equipment/controllers, chart recorders, DC Analog/Signal Conditioners, and transducers). </li><li>Troubleshoot, inspect, and adjust/repair test and measurement equipment in support of new and existing projects. </li><li>Provide in-lab and on-site calibration support for equipment that is either too sensitive to move, or is too large and not feasible to relocate. </li><li>Work overtime when necessary to support high priority requests, or meet project goals. </li><li>Provide direction or training to lower-level technicians. </li><li>May require travel to other Medtronic site locations up to 30 miles. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of two years of electronic, or physical, calibration-related technical school training (60 semester credits) to preferably include metrology and calibration, or equivalent military education such as PMEL or like training. </li><li>ASQ Certified Calibration Technician. </li><li>Strong math and physics background. </li><li>Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and Windows OS. </li><li>Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing techniques interpreting blueprints. </li><li>Experience with MS Excel spreadsheet template development and validation testing. </li><li>Knowledge of calibration and measurement principles: measurement uncertainty, measurement traceability, measurement standards, test uncertainty/accuracy ratios, measurement system analysis (MSA), SI units, calibration intervals, and out-of-tolerance reporting. </li><li>Familiar with these regulations: FDA 21 CFR Part 820 cGMP, ISO 13485, ISO 10012, and ISO 17025 </li><li>Familiar with NIST, BIPM, NCSL, ASTM, ASME, or other organizations related to metrology, measurements, or standards. </li><li>Organized, efficient, process oriented; interpersonal/communication skills; self-motivated; team player; strong work ethic; works well under pressure in a dynamic environment; tactful, exercises independent judgment and discretion - professional presentation. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Requires minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. </li><li>Requires high school diploma, or equivalent. </li></ul> <p>Physical Job Requirements</p> <p>The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position.</p> <p>The physical demands described within the Responsibilities section of this job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
