<p>Job Title: Adult Education Teacher - SY 26-27</p> <p>Reports to: Principal</p> <p>Location: Adult Learning Center</p> <p>Job Type: Full-Time</p> <p>Welcome to Lawrence Public Schools</p> <p>Lawrence Public Schools is committed to ensuring that ALL students successfully master the content and skills necessary to graduate from high school, college, and/or career ready. These efforts are monitored and assessed regularly to ensure accountability to all stakeholders.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The ALC Adult Basic Education (ABE) Educator will help adult learners prepare for the GED or the HiSET high school equivalency credential and to transition to post-secondary education, jobs and/or job training by teaching content courses. The ABE Educator will work to ensure that students are receiving standards-based and evidence- based instruction that is student-centered, and includes appropriate supports, and necessary accommodations.</p> <p>Essential Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teach, reinforce, remediate, and ensure mastery of academic content with individual students, small groups of students, and whole class of students in the assigned content areas (Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Math, Science) </li><li>Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences and meet the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education, and required Curriculum Frameworks for ABE & ESOL. </li><li>Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. </li><li>Use relevant technology to support instruction. </li><li>Evaluate students' progress regularly and prepare measurable goals and objectives. </li><li>Provide appropriate and timely feedback on student work. </li><li>Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards. </li><li>Submit lesson plans, electronically, on a weekly basis. </li><li>Use assessment data to refine curriculum and modify instructional practices. </li><li>Communicate effectively, consistently, and professionally with students, and colleagues. </li><li>Provide support, accommodations, and attention to all students. </li><li>Maintain and update all necessary records accurately, and completely, including attendance as required by ALC - ABE program, and ACLS. </li><li>Communicate expectations for adult learners' academic and social behavior by establishing and enforcing Classroom and school-wide norms, routines, and rules. </li><li>Maintain classroom and school wide discipline in accordance with the rules contained in the ALC Student. </li><li>Handbook and communicate serious infractions to the principal or advisors immediately. </li><li>Participate in school and community events, such as seminars, field trips, community forums, weekly ALC. </li></ul> <p>meetings, professional development opportunities, and end of the year ceremonies, including graduation.</p> <ul> <li>Keep current with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities relative to the teaching of adult learners. </li><li>Complete the fifteen (15) hour The Art of Teaching, part of the Foundations for New Staff course through SABES required for all teachers new to the adult education (AE) field in the first year of employment. </li><li>Comply with school, district, city, and statewide policies, regulations, and laws. </li><li>Adhere to rules of student confidentiality. </li><li>Complete other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Familiarity with the field of Adult Basic Education, and HSE programs and exams. </li><li>Sound understanding of adult learning theory. </li><li>Solid knowledge base of math/science instruction or reading/writing/social studies instruction. </li><li>Strong foundation in second language acquisition and linguistics. </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency using digital literacy tools, as well as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. </li><li>Knowledge of Massachusetts' DESE-ACLS program guidelines, performance indicators & benchmarks. </li><li>College and Career Readiness Standards for Adults. </li><li>Certification in required AE/ESOL assessments MAPT. </li><li>Experience with SABES professional development courses. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree Required/ Master's Degree preferred. </li><li>Valid Massachusetts Teaching License required, preferably in ABE, ESOL, or ESL, or in a core content area (Reading, Math, ELA, Science, History). </li><li>If possessing a MA DESE teaching license other than an ABE, ESL, or ESOL the candidate must have a deep understanding of RETELL obligations, and ability to meet SEI requirements for MA educators. </li><li>At least three (3) years' experience teaching adults, preferably ABE or ESOL. </li><li>Current Authorization to work in the United States. </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer</p> <p>Lawrence Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment for employees and applicants.
