<p>Otterbein University is in search of an Accessibility Specialist in the Academic Support Center/Disability Services department (ASC/DS). Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Disability Services in the Academic Support Center, the Accessibility Specialist is responsible for coordinating academic services and accommodations for students registered with Disability Services (DS). This position is a full-time, exempt position working 40 hours a week, 12 months a year. The salary for this position is $48,000 annually, paid monthly as earned.</p> <p>Otterbein offers a comprehensive benefits package including:</p> <ul> <li>Tuition benefit to employee, spouse or domestic partner and dependents </li><li>Accrue 4 weeks of paid vacation </li><li>10 days paid sick time </li><li>12 paid holidays plus bonus days </li><li>Medical, dental and vision insurance to you, dependents or domestic partner </li><li>Life Insurance </li><li>Defined contribution retirement plan </li><li>and much more </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Review documentation and assess eligibility for academic accommodations.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain documentation logs and accurate records of students registered with Disability Services.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct welcome meetings with students to gain information, review documentation, discuss and assess accommodation needs, and train students in accessing accommodations by self-advocating and collaborating with Disability Services and their professors.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate the interactive process among students, faculty, and Disability Services to identify reasonable accommodations that maintain the essential design, requirements, and learning outcomes of the course.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist faculty in identifying reasonable accommodations on a course-by-course basis; includes disability-related attendance and deadline flexibility, when appropriate.</p> </li><li> <p>Act as a liaison between students and faculty.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as an advocate, resource, and support for students registered with Disability Services.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as a resource and support for faculty.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with test proctoring as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Act as a liaison between students with mental health disabilities and The Counseling Center on campus.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide academic support to students through academic coaching meetings while promoting independence, responsibility, and self-advocacy.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide faculty professional development to better assist students with disabilities via</p> </li><li> <p>presentations/workshops (in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning), outreach, and general communication.</p> </li><li> <p>Professionally represent the ASC. Troubleshoot, follow up with, and provide excellent customer service to all constituents - students, faculty, staff, families, and prospective students.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.</p> </li><li> <p>Effectively communicate and collaborate with ASC colleagues. Develop and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend weekly meetings with the DS Assistant Director, DS team, and ASC.</p> </li><li> <p>Meet with prospective students and families to discuss DS services.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop resources to support student academic success.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as an academic advisor for Undeclared students.</p> </li></ul> <p>Other duties as identified.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor's degree is required. Preferably in special education or counseling. Master's degree is preferred, ideally in disability services, higher education, or counseling. At least 2 years of experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a higher education or post-secondary setting.</p> <p>DESIREABLE: Accommodation provision experience in higher education. Knowledge of various types of learning, medical, and psychological, disabilities. Demonstrated knowledge of ADA and Section 504. Experience with Digital Accessibility.</p> <p>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: N/A</p> <p>LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must demonstrate excellent spoken and written English communication skills including grammar.</p> <p>MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must be competent in general math.</p> <p>TECHNICAL SKILLS: Excellent computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Proficiency in shared file storage, such as OneDrive, and database management. Ability to gain proficiency in accessibility technologies such as Otter.ai and Natural Reader. Ability to gain proficiency in university systems such as Banner and EAB Navigate.</p> <p>REASONING ABILITY: Excellent customer service, attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills are essential for this position. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative and independent judgment and perform under pressure.
