<p>Position Summary</p> <p>This position is responsible for conducting audits of interstate motor carrier fuel tax-related records, operations or any other motor-carrier related audits. These audits verify the accuracy of fuel tax and registration fee payments due to the State of Wisconsin and other members of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and the International Registration Plan (IRP) from Wisconsin based carriers, documenting the audits, and completing written audit reports. These audits assess compliance of the motor carrier with record-keeping requirements of the Agreement, and to determine whether or not the correct fuel tax and registration fees have been paid to Wisconsin and each IFTA jurisdiction based on mileage operated and the fuel consumed or IRP jurisdiction based on mileage operated. The work performed assures that the proper amounts of revenues are collected and encourages continued motor carrier participation in revenue generating fuel tax and registration fee systems.</p> <p>Audits will include examining the operational records of the motor carrier, establishing facts of the vehicle operations and fuel purchases, and reviewing transactions, mileage documents, records, reports, and internal controls for accuracy, effectiveness, and compliance with the provisions of the IFTA and the IRP. The Fuel Tax and Registration Auditor will develop a written report of the findings, recommendations, and necessary action for multiple audiences.</p> <p>Revenues generated for the Transportation Fund from IRP registration fees exceeds $60 million annually. Revenues generated for the Transportation Fund from fuel tax collection are estimated to be in excess of $18 million annually.</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>This position is in schedule-range (07-04) with an annual salary of $52,246 - $63,440 ($26.08-$30.50 per hour), plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.</p> <p>Job Details</p> <p>This state agency does not sponsor work visas. This state agency is not enrolled in USCIS E-Verify and is not eligible to employ international F-1 students seeking STEM-OPT extension. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.</p> <p>Prior to any appointments for position(s) filled from this announcement, candidates may be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check which may include FBI fingerprinting.</p> <p>This position may require occasional travel on an independent basis throughout the state. Additionally, occasional travel on an independent basis outside the State of Wisconsin may be required to attend trainings.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Qualified applicants will have experience with all of the following:</p> <ul> <li>Microsoft Excel or similar experience such as creating, sorting, keying data and manipulating spreadsheets (e.g., creating tables, writing formulas using functions, etc.). </li><li>Experience collaborating with various business partners including internal and external business partners. (Business partners may include a division, bureau, partner agency, the public, customers, management, etc.) </li><li>Experience interpreting or applying State and Federal laws and statutes. </li><li>Experience analyzing data to identify trends and issues. </li></ul> <p>In addition to all of the above, well qualified applicants will have experience with one or more of the following:</p> <ul> <li>Experience writing detailed reports containing supporting facts, statistics, and statutory citations for multiple audiences. </li><li>Experience performing audits by gathering and interpreting information from a variety of sources (e.g. documents, reports, conversations with business partners, etc.). </li><li>Experience or training with motor carrier operations, permit service, or other motor vehicle background. </li></ul> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>Apply online!
