<p>Position Description</p> <p>The Farm Core Facility at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a skilled and motivatedFarm Associateto support agricultural and greenhouse operations for plant research activities. This role plays a critical part in maintaining plant health, supporting experimental work, and ensuring the smooth operation of field and controlled growing environments.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform plant care activities including irrigation, fertilizing, and weeding </li><li>Conduct field work such as mowing, rototilling, and weed whacking </li><li>Assist with integrated pest management, including pesticide application </li><li>Prepare soil mixes according to recipes and fill flats for planting </li><li>Wash and maintain flats and pots for reuse </li><li>Maintain growth chambers, including changing lights and monitoring for pests </li><li>Perform general maintenance of agricultural and greenhouse equipment </li><li>Availability to work weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule </li></ul> <p>Position Requirements</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in a plant science, agriculture, horticulture, or related "green" field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of three years of agricultural or greenhouse experience required </li></ul> <p>Skills & Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Strong agricultural and/or greenhouse skills </li><li>Ability to meet the physical demands of outdoor and greenhouse work </li><li>Experience or familiarity with greenhouse controller programming preferred </li><li>Basic computer skills for record keeping and data entry </li></ul> <p>Physical & Work Environment Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Ability to lift up to 50 lbs </li><li>Comfortable bending, stretching, standing, and walking for extended periods </li><li>Ability to work with cleaning agents such as bleach </li><li>Willingness to work outdoors in sun, heat, and inclement weather </li><li>Regular exposure to sunlight and varying environmental conditions </li><li>Valid driver's license required </li><li>Ability to operate a tractor with a clutch </li><li>NYS Pesticide Applicator's License preferred or willingness to obtain </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>How to Apply:</p> <p>If you are interested in plant science, agriculture, or hands-on research support we encourage you to apply!
