<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Budget Title: Academic Advisor</p> <p>Campus Title: EOP Counselor</p> <p>Unit: Student Affairs</p> <p>Professional Rank and Salary: SL-3; Minimum starting salary is $57151, DOQ</p> <p>Location: Syracuse</p> <p>Description of Duties:</p> <p>The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at SUNY ESF invites applications for the position of EOP Counselor in the Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs. EOP provides access, academic support, and financial aid to undergraduate students who come from historically disadvantaged backgrounds. The EOP Counselor will advise students on the college transition, starting during the EOP Pre-College Summer Program and continuing through to graduation. The EOP Counselor is a key member of EOP team, is a staff member in the Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs, and will report directly to the EOP Director.</p> <p>This is a 12-month obligation. Work Schedule: Full-time with occasional evenings and weekends. Four-week Summer College Program, typically in July, will require non-traditional hours.</p> <p>Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Provide academic, career, social, financial, and personal advising to EOP students </li><li>Develop and facilitate a 1-credit EOP first year success course, to include developing the course syllabus, presenting on success topics, securing guest presenters, and creating course assessments </li><li>Assist with coordinating EOP tutoring, supplemental instruction, and study hours </li><li>Assist with the planning and implementation of the EOP Pre-College Summer Program </li><li>Serve as an advocate for EOP and the students accepted into the program </li><li>Assist with the EOP admissions process, such as supporting EOP yield events, open houses, other recruiting activities </li><li>Assist with the planning and implementation of EOP cohort bonding events </li><li>Serve as chaperon for off-campus activities </li><li>Attend EOP staff meetings and EOP programming </li><li>Maintain accurate and comprehensive counseling records </li><li>Actively participate in staff meetings and retreats, and Student Affairs programs </li><li>Assist with major College and Division events and initiatives to include: </li><li>New and Transfer Student Orientation (August and January) </li><li>Commencement </li><li>Family Weekend </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution </li><li>Two or more years' experience working with high school or college students </li><li>Possess and maintain a NYS Driver's License </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in a related field (e.g. Higher Education, Teaching, Counseling, STEM) </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds, including historically academically and economically disadvantaged backgrounds </li><li>Experience working with students and families whose first language is not English </li><li>Highly developed verbal and written communication skills </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills </li><li>Strong organizational and time management skills </li><li>Experience using databases and other technology, particularly Microsoft Office software </li><li>Teaching or presenting experience </li><li>EOP/HEOP alumni </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act" institutions of higher education are required to prepare an annual report containing information on campus security policies and campus statistics. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by SUNY-ESF; and on property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning sexual assault, and other matters.
