<p>Job Title: Phlebotomist - Day Shift (Hospital Laboratory)</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>This role focuses on obtaining and processing blood and nonblood specimens in a busy hospital laboratory setting. You will perform venipuncture and other specimen collections, conduct screening tests, and prepare samples for both in-house and reference laboratory testing. This is a long-term opportunity with a growing hospital that offers clear career development and advancement pathways for phlebotomists.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Obtain blood specimens through venipuncture and other phlebotomy techniques in a hospital environment. </li><li>Collect nonblood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing according to established protocols. </li><li>Perform screening tests on collected specimens and accurately report results to the appropriate medical staff. </li><li>Process specimens to prepare them for laboratory analysis, including proper labeling, handling, and storage. </li><li>Prepare specimens for dispatch to reference laboratories, ensuring correct packaging, documentation, and timely transfer. </li><li>Handle an average volume of approximately 50 blood draws per day on the day shift, maintaining accuracy and patient safety. </li><li>Respond to calls for codes, arterial blood gases (ABGs), and rapid response situations as needed. </li><li>Work primarily with adult patients while occasionally supporting pediatric and burn unit cases. </li><li>Follow all hospital and laboratory policies and procedures related to infection control, safety, and quality standards. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of collections, tests performed, and specimen processing in accordance with laboratory requirements. </li><li>Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff. </li><li>Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support continuous improvement in laboratory operations. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated phlebotomy experience with blood draws and venipuncture in a clinical or hospital setting. </li><li>Phlebotomy certification preferred; if not certified, at least 6 months of hands-on phlebotomy experience or clinical training that includes practicing phlebotomy on patients. </li><li>If newly certified, completion of clinical rotations or experience in a hospital environment is required. </li><li>Ability to perform a high volume of blood draws (approximately 50 per day on the day shift) with accuracy and efficiency. </li><li>Competence in collecting nonblood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs. </li><li>Skill in performing basic screening tests and accurately reporting results. </li><li>Strong attention to detail in specimen labeling, handling, and processing. </li><li>Ability to work effectively in urgent situations, including responding to codes, ABGs, and rapid response calls. </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients and clinical staff. </li><li>Commitment to following safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Phlebotomy certification is highly desirable and supports career progression. </li><li>Experience working in a hospital laboratory or acute care setting. </li><li>Exposure to adult patient populations, with some experience or comfort working with pediatric patients and specialized units such as burn care. </li><li>Interest in long-term career growth within a structured phlebotomy and laboratory career path. </li><li>Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage varying specimen volumes across different shifts. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This position is based in a busy hospital laboratory that supports a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including the area's only burn unit and limited pediatric cases. The primary schedule for this role is a day shift from 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with an average of about 50 blood draws per day. The broader laboratory operates across multiple shifts, with evening hours typically from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and varying draw volumes on evening and night shifts. Team members work rotating weekends and receive one weekday off each week, with the same day off consistently to support a predictable schedule. The environment is fast-paced and clinically focused, with frequent interaction with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Phlebotomists may be called to respond to codes, perform ABGs, and assist with rapid response situations. The setting follows standard hospital and laboratory safety protocols, and attire aligns with professional clinical dress and appropriate personal protective equipment.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tulsa, OK.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
