<p>Job Description</p> <p>ECU Health</p> <p>About ECU Health Medical Center</p> <p>ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Director of Patient Care Services is responsible and accountable for the overall management, provision and coordination of all nursing care in ECU Health. Serving as a catalyst and role model, the Director of Patient Care Services provides leadership and direction in accordance with the organizations mission, vision and strategic plan. The Director of Patient Care Services is a partner with the Medical Staff, the Executive Team, Directors Council, interdisciplinary organizational leaders and corporate leaders to oversee practice and operations. Foremost in the Director of Patient Care Services purpose is to ensure patient safety, quality care, and maximal patient outcomes. Serving as the Director of Patient Care Services for ECU Health as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and other regulatory agencies for all areas that provide nursing care, the Director is responsible and accountable for professional development and continuous quality improvement through evidence-based practice and research. Organized nursing services include but not limited to the following departments: Emergency Services, Surgical Services (Ambulatory Surgery, Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care), Medical/Surgical Unit, Outpatient Specialty Clinics. The primary goal of organized nursing services is the delivery of quality, compassionate, culturally competent, cost effective and efficient care to individuals, families, groups and communities within the dynamic health care environment. The Director of Patient Care Services serves as an integral member of the senior leadership team participating in the administration of the health care organization and reports to the Vice President of Operations. To successfully carry out the responsibilities of the position, the Director of Patient Care Services must communicate effectively at all levels and must establish collaborative relationships with Chiefs of Services, Chief of Staff, Executive Staff, Managers, Medical Staff and Corporate Leaders. The Director of Patient Care Services must be knowledgeable, skilled and competent in planning, organizing, leading and evaluating clinical practice and health care delivery systems.</p> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.</p> <p>Must be willing to obtain Master's Degree within four years of employment. Current or compact licensure as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina.</p> <p>3 to 5 years in a management role.</p> <p>Requires a working knowledge of the following areas: organizational behavior, management systems and processes, nursing practice standards, clinical practice guidelines, law/ regulation/ethics, health care economics, health and public policy, trends in healthcare business practices, consumer health care issues, health care evaluation and outcome measures, fiscal management and finance.</p> <p>Demonstration of leadership qualities and executive and organizational ability that supports the organization's complexity and scope.</p> <p>Initiative and judgment in determining needs of patient care programs, selecting personnel and maintaining patient care according to established standards.</p> <p>Ability to flexibly meet the changes in the healthcare environment.</p> <p>Broad knowledge of patient care derived from progressive nursing and related healthcare experience.</p> <p>Demonstrations and promotion of positive customer relationship with visitors, patients, physicians, and staff in a friendly, caring and timely manner.</p> <p>Is cognizant of standards and regulations affecting the Hospital and serves as a role model in their ethical application.</p> <p>Demonstration of personal traits/behavior consistent with the mission and core values of the organization.</p> <p>Ability to communicate effectively with peers, subordinates, board members, physicians and others on a one-to-one or group basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.</p> <p>Flexibility to juggle several assignments simultaneously, to cope successfully with diversity and complexity, to integrate seemingly unrelated data and to reduce complex notions to relatively simple terms.</p> <p>Analytical ability to evaluate problem situations in depth and come to independent conclusions.</p> <p>Ability to identify problems and creatively plan solutions using a multidisciplinary approach to improve performance.</p> <p>Other Information</p> <p>Postion: 1.0 FTE - 40 hour shifts / week</p> <p>Shift: Days</p> <p>Unit Fact Sheet: https://www.ecuhealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Unit-Fact-Sheets-EMC-12.13.23.pdf</p> <p>Benefits and Bonuses:</p>
