<p>Basic Function</p> <p>Under minimal direction of teacher(s), assist, plan, and prepared educational and/or learning lab activities; assists by instructing individuals or small groups of students; and performs other related work as assigned within the scope of this description. This position may have variable hours from year to year.</p> <p>Performance of Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li> <p>Provides daily direction/instruction to individuals or groups of students.</p> </li><li> <p>Develops instructional methods/materials based upon observation, testing, and/or teacher prescription.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides direction of independent study centers for instruction, reinforcement, to remedial students.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares routine and specialized student assessment materials, interprets, and reports results to instructors.</p> </li><li> <p>Observes students and prepares written summaries of observation for teacher or members of specialized staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Plans daily activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Becomes knowledgeable of content, objectives, procedures, and desired outcome of reading, mathematics, language arts, and spelling as taught in the regular classroom and according to student(s) Individual Educational Program (IEP).</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with instruction and supervision of parent volunteers and C.A.T.'s (cross-age tutors).</p> </li><li> <p>Attends workshops and implements techniques as appropriate with students.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs basic clerical tasks including operation of various office and classroom equipment.</p> </li></ol> <p>Experience</p> <p>A minimum of two years experience as an Instructional Aide - Regular Classroom or the equivalent in a teaching/learning setting.</p> <p>Education and Training Requirements</p> <ul> <li>High school grade or equivalent required, including education or training related to the responsibilities of the position (Associate of Arts degree desirable) </li><li>Successful passing of the required proficiency examination </li><li>Participation in District/SELPA in-service workshops </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of</p> <p>Instructional material used at grade(s) levels(s)</p> <p>Application of curriculum content as it applies to individual differences.</p> <p>General needs and behavior of children</p> <p>Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation</p> <p>Standard office equipment and modern office methods</p> <p>Basic knowledge of the computer</p> <p>Ability To</p> <p>Instruct under minimal guidance of the teacher in charge</p> <p>Establish and maintain effective relationships with adults and children</p> <p>Plan learning activities under guidance of teacher in charge</p> <p>Assume a high level of responsibility and independent activity</p> <p>Work effectively with children who have special needs.</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
